HAZEL GRAINGER (nee MAGUIRE) January 22, 1915 - October 3, 2012 It is with deep sadness, but wonderful memories, that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Hazel Grainger. Hazel was predeceased by the love of her life, Fred, in 1999, her husband of 58 years. She was also predeceased by her parents, Sam and Gertrude, brothers Harvey, Mel; sisters Violet, Mae, Elsie and is survived by her sister Jennie. Remaining to lovingly cherish her memory are her daughters Dianne (Barry) Hudson and Barbara (Kim) Turner; grandchildren Chris, Kyle (Leslie) and Joanne Hudson, Laura (Dean) Sproule, Jarret (Zuzana) Voigt, Carrie Voigt, and great-grandchildren Keelee, Kyra and Kennedy Sproule, Evan and Logan Voigt, Sienna Hudson. Hazel was born at home in Elgin, Manitoba and lived on the farm with her six siblings. She graduated from St. Boniface School of Nursing in 1939. After graduation she worked as a private nurse. She met and fell in love with Fred and they married in 1941. She was actively involved in the church for several years. Many of her winters were spent curling where she won many bonspiels. Another passion was the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, having season tickets for a number of years. On her crafty side, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting. Many of her sweaters have been worn by family members and others. Many homeless people received her mittens. Hazel's memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Anglican Church, Grant Avenue and Elm Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. "It was a privilege knowing her" Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I couldn't ever imagine bringing my baby home 16 years ago without wearing an "Aunty Hazel" knitted sweater outfit. She will be missed terribly and thought of often... - Posted by: Sandra (niece) on: Oct 09, 2012

  • Barb, Dianne and families. I am sorry for your Mother's passing. I remember her vividly, along with your Dad. Hector Bay football pools, girls getting together in the basement, etc. etc., our Moms always knew where we were, right. There will always be a place in your heart for her, even though she is gone.
