DAISY FAGNAN (nee STEVENS) June 8, 1936 - October 4, 2012 On October 4, 2012 at the age of 76 beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great- great-grandmother, sister, auntie and cousin Daisy Fagnan passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre. She is survived by her daughters Heather (Bob), Elizabeth (Dave), Jo-Ann (Terry), and Cynthia (Jason), siblings Hugh, Pearly (Linda), Albert (Sylvia), Sandra (Doug), and Edna, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. Daisy was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Nancy Stevens, brothers Ernest and Tommy, sisters Gladys, Lucy and Elizabeth and daughter Debbie. Daisy was a Cree woman who was born in Swan Lake Settlement and moved to Sapotaweyak, MB where she was raised for the first five years of her life. Like many other young First Nation children, Daisy was forced to attend residential school and for six years of her young life Daisy was away from her family. Daisy clung to the teachings of her parents and paternal grandmother. In spite of being taken away from home and family, Daisy managed to keep sacred the language of her mother-tongue; Cree which she spoke fluently. Between 1978 and 1996, Daisy worked as a teacher's assistant, teaching nursery and kindergarten at David Livingstone School - an inner city school in the Winnipeg School Division. Daisy loved teaching the little children as much as they loved her as a teacher. Upon her retirement, Daisy worked for Northern Star Collections where she mastered the art of sewing star blankets. We honour Daisy as a mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, great-great-grandmother and teacher. We also recognized her quiet leadership. Prayers and viewing will be held on Monday, October 8 at 6:00 p.m. at Kekinan Centre, 100 Robinson Street. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg, MB. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Daisy. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

  • She is my grandma, my dearest friend, my close friend, my trail to mother earth, my sought but never forgotten memory of total bliss. she was my hardest memory, my softest and most kind mentor a grandson can have. she lived a strong and steady life of children and family but can never let go of her own power and achieve such a great goal to attribute and tribute all who loved her and all who cared for her. she is a woman of wisdom, joy, adventure and wittiness but can always keep control of a situation what ever the consequence. she will be missed for as long has I live. Rest in heaven grandma and mom. I miss you. - Posted by: Andrew Alexander Sinclair - James Ernest Sinclair (Debra Janet Brass sons to Grandsons to Grandma Daisy Fagnan) on: Oct 06, 2012
