JACOB HIEBERT Jacob Hiebert was born January 1, 1925 to Henry and Lena Hiebert in Sewell, southern Manitoba. Growing up on a farm, Jacob learned the value of hard work and diligent problem solving. He embraced challenges overcoming any obstacle, whether it be electrical, plumbing related, structural when building homes or barns, car repairs or the complexities of genetics as a biology teacher. At the age of 24, Jacob accepted Jesus as his Savior and Friend. Jacob met Salome in 1949 and they were married August 16, 1956. He completed four Bachelor Degrees and a Masters of Education and enjoyed 30 years of teaching at Vincent Massey Collegiate in Winnipeg. Jacob was a loving, generous and caring husband, father and grandfather. Jacob served faithfully within the Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church and renovated many a friend's basement, repaired and maintained the homes and cars of his three children, and hosted international students arriving newly to Manitoba to study at the university. Jacob lived his last years with Alzheimer's and faced one of the biggest challenges of his life. His wife Salome continued to be his greatest comfort and eternal love. Jacob passed away peacefully at Pembina Place Mennonite Personal Care Home with his wife and family by his side at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2012. Jacob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Salome, daughter Joanna and husband Dan, children Jesse, Emma and Chloe; son John and wife Karis, children James, Janessa and Kristen; and son Mervyn and wife Elmira, children Olivia, Sophia and Sawyer; one sister Margaret and a brother, Cornelius. Thank-you to Dr. Padeanu for years of expert care and concern. A special thank-you to nurses Hatice and Lisa, for sensitive, compassionate care on the night of Jacob's passing. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Jacob's name to Mennonite Central Committee Palestine-Israel Program. Viewing at Friends Funeral Services, 2146 Main St., Winnipeg from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, October 11 (7:15 reflection and sharing). I am one of Mr. Hiebert's many previous students. I have strong memories of his contributions to education in the Fort Garry School Division. I know there are many people like myself in countless professions, trades, and other walks of life who have experienced his strong influence and have come to value this dedicated teacher all the more as they experience life and realize how he has helped us prepare for life. As they say; when they made him, they threw away the mold. My sincere condolences to his family. I am sure they have many good memories to treasure, and hopefully my comments, representing his former students, will help them to understand what a huge impact he had upon many lives. Sincerely, Michael West - Posted by: Michael West (Former student) on: Nov 21, 2012

Dear Aunt Salome, Joanna, John, Merv and your families, Uncle Jake was and remains to be a special uncle. He held my admiration while being more than capable in so many areas and circumstances. Aunt Salome your devotion and care for him in the final years was especially beautiful. May prayers and memories continue to comfort you all. Dear Salome, Joanna, John, and Mervyn: Our prayers are with you and your families at this time of temporary separation! I have so many fond memories for the few days I had the privilege to spend with Jake and you all when I was a foreign student back in 1972. It was through Jake's and Salome's hospitality and testimony of love that the Lord opened my heart for the first time to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jake's kindness left a indelible impression in my heart. - Posted by: Hansel and Cathy Wang () on: Oct 13, 2012

Dear Salome and family Our prayers are with you at this time. I know that we will all be reunited in Heaven and have a great family reunion! My favourite memory of Jake is all the summers I spent at the farm in Glencross (Morden) when I was very young and the lively breakfast table!
