DARRYL BRANT COSENS 1953 - 2012 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brant Cosens at Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall on Friday, October 5, 2012, with family at his side. Brant will be missed greatly by his daughter Megan; his mother, Marie, stepfather Roy; sister Lisa (Sylvain); brother Kevin (Judy); and nieces Celeste and Sloane; nephews, Julien and Alexandre. Also left to cherish his memory are his Aunt Martha (John), and Uncle Lawrence (Cathie), and many friends. He was predeceased by his father, Keith (1990), and grandparents Margaret and Jim Smith and Inez and Henry Cosens. Brant spent his childhood days in Wawanesa, Kelwood and Rosser, and moved to Stonewall where he attended school, then later the University of Winnipeg. He was proud to have hitch hiked across Canada and later took trips to California, Queenston, Seattle, Tucson and Hawaii with family, which were special times for him. He was employed as a miner, an elementary school teacher in Little Grand Rapids and finally a Project Officer for the Federal Government for 25 years. In 1978 Brant was diagnosed with MS. Although he had periods of remission, he struggled to cope with the disease. Despite this, he always had a great sense of humour and a positive outlook. His love of reading enabled him to develop an eloquent vocabulary. Music was a central part of his life, attending concerts, folk festivals and amassing a huge music collection. He also enjoyed film, British humour, horseback riding, swimming and especially family time together. Through all his trials, daughter Megan was a constant support and joy for him. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Rosewood Lodge and Poseidon Centre, Roy Craig, Lawrence Unc and Cathie Smith, Martha and John Fair, Karen Forrest and Frances Holm. Sincere thanks to Reverend Bill Gillis and Mackenzie Funeral Home for their comfort and guidance. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Mackenzie Funeral Chapel in Stonewall, followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Suite 100-1465 Buffalo Place Winnipeg, MB, R3T 1L8 MACKENZIE FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-467-2525 mackhome@mts.net
