GORDON PAULL It is with great sadness that the family of Gordon Staples Paull announces his passing on October 9, 2012 at the age of 96. Gordon was born in Swan River on April 6, 1916. During the Second World War, Gordon served in the R.C.A. 77th Battery. He was wounded and returned to Winnipeg in 1944. Gordon lived in Churchill from 1956 - 1976. During that time he first worked for the Department of National Defense. He then owned and operated a Shell Bulk Station and was a Ford dealer. While doing so, he then built and operated a fly-in fishing lodge in South Knife Lake. Gord personally flew in tourists to the lodge in his Cessna 206. Little did those tourists know, he was the only one eyed pilot in Canada!! On March 2, 1974 he married the love of his life Jen Rowluk. In 1978, Gordon and Jen retired and they moved back to his hometown of Swan River. The two of them enjoyed many happy years with friends and family in Swan River. They moved to Winnipeg in October 2000 to be closer to family. Gordon was predeceased by his father George Paull, mother Pearl, grandson Robin Paull, Sisters Thelma (McIntyre), Shirley (Sleeman), Evelyn (Moore), Lorna (Mills), brothers John and Douglas Sleeman, stepson Robert Rowluk. He leaves to mourn his passing, wife Jen, son Gordon, sister Hazel (Roy) Bowles, Janice Randell, Ardelle (Bill) Nemez, stepchildren Judy Rowluk, John (Penny) Rowluk, Jackie Rowluk. He also leaves to mourn 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. As per Gordon's wishes he will be buried in the Military Cemetery in Swan River, Manitoba. Gordon was a man of few words, who was deeply loved by all of his family and he will be greatly missed. A game of cards and Snooker will never be the same. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • When my mother Ellen Carlotta Paull was still alive, (passed away 2000) I used to see Gordon and visited with him. He was quiet as was mentioned but he had an inner beauty that you could detect after spending an hour with him. My mother died at 102 and I thought maybe Gordon might match that but his call came and he answered. Rest in peace Gordon. - Posted by: Donald Harvey Young (not related) on: Oct 16, 2012

  • I remember visiting Gordon in Churchill when I was working for Transair in Flin Flon in 1968. He showed me around Churchill as best he could in all the snow and ice. Yes he was a very quiet man but also very kind. Rest in Peace. Wendee Paull Cloutier - Posted by: Wendee Paull Cloutier (Daughter of Willis Paull) on: Oct 11, 2012
