Quigley, Jennifer's treasured dog was also a loving companion to Eric. Eric is also survived by his brother Rolly (Joan), sister-in-law Dorene (Jack) and brother-in-law Lorne (Michelle). Eric was known by everyone as a wonderful, caring, wise, and supportive man. To Eric, family was Number One! He was the life of any gathering, witty, entertaining always with a story to share. Eric was a highly regarded Manitoba businessman. Having worked as an accountant first with his dad, WC Barthel and later as the owner of EC Barthel and Associates, a private practice firm; he advised and supported clients for almost 60 years. Although I did not see him often especially in the last few years he was a presence in our lives since I can remember and he was always so patient and understanding with my folks. He was a good man and will be missed by many I am sure. I am deeply saddened by your loss. - Posted by: Charlene Leschinsky () on: Oct 31, 2012

Our deepest condolences to the Barthel Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We knew Eric for 38 years through business (J.S.Furniture) He was our accountant for all these years and we always respected and took his great advice when it came to our year end financials. Dear, dear Geri, Kim, and Jennifer. I was so saddened to hear of Eric's passing! He was such a fine man - even though I really only kept in touch with him/you and the girls through Uncle Cal and Auntie Tina. I will remember his kindness and 'great' humor whenever I did see him! Truly he will be missed but I know he is always with you, Geri, Kim, and Jennifer. May God Bless you now and always. FOR OVER 30 YEARS ERIC AND I DISCUSSED, "FOR WHAT REASON DID WE HAVE TO PAY ALL THESE TAXES". IT WAS A LONG BATTLE WITH MANY TWISTS AND TURNS AND NEVER SOLVED. WE WOULD DISCUSS MANY DIFFERENT ISSUES FROM PERSONAL TO BUSINESS AND ANYTHING ELSE IN BETWEEN. MANY A LIVELY DISCUSSION WAS HAD AND I ENJOYED EVERY MOMENT. HE EVEN TOOK TIME OFF FROM HIS BUSY SCHEDULE TO MAKE WOODEN WATCH CLOCKS FOR MY BUSINESS CLIENTS. HE WAS A VERY DEAR PERSONAL FRIEND AND MENTOR AND I WILL MISS HIS WORDS OF WISDOM. I WILL MISS HIM VERY MUCH - Posted by: JAMES PETKAU (FRIEND AND CLIENT) on: Oct 12, 2012

Through the years we have grown to appreciate Eric as a wonderful neighbor and friend. Laughs....we've shared a few! Tears...those too. We will miss him dearly and there will always be a place set for him at our "neighborhood gatherings". Loving, living and laughing sound like they were always present in your lives as a family. Cherish all the times you had together. May these memories ease the pain of your loss and let Eric fill your mind with joy instead of sadness. I hope your faith gives you strength to support each other and smile again. - Posted by: Suzanne (Barthel) Bormann (Neice) on: Oct 11, 2012
