SALUT JEAN CLAUDE DUMAS In our home the word Salut was often heard. Usually when there was a house full of family or close friends. To us, it meant, Goodbye, we'll see you again or Cheers when lifting a glass at happy hour. Today we say Salut to our beloved Husband, Father, Grampa, Brother, Mentor and Friend. On October 5, 2012 at 83 years young, Jean passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Nothing was more important to him than his family and he will be forever missed by his beloved wife Nancy; daughters Sally (Lyle) and Claudine (Doug); sons Jacques (Deb) and Pierre (Heather); grandchildren Jason (Tara), Derek (Lori), Rory (Alycia), Aaron (Holly), Haley, Mitch, Raquel, Jean Luc and Alex. His great-grandchildren Violet, Zuri and Jade will sorely miss their Chocolate Grampa. He will be re-uniting with his family that have passed before him; his parents Hermenegilde et Antoinette, and siblings Fernand, Lillianne, Robert, et Raymond; and he will forever look over his remaining siblings Adrian, Marcel, Yvon, Andre, Gilles, Louisette, François, et Colette and their families. Jean was many things. He was a talented Miner, a successful businessman, a world traveller, and a farmer. He was compassionate, intelligent, honest, forgiving, humble and wise. He enjoyed music, history, languages, visiting the wonders of the world, immersing himself in other cultures and "Saving the Planet." He cared for all of nature's creatures and was steward to the land that he made our home. He loved a good debate and constantly made us all laugh at his amazing quick wit, contagious smile, and incessant snicker. He made quick friends and gave selflessly to all, only asking for Peace in return. And he was always there whenever we needed him. With much love and the utmost respect, we say Salut, tit Jean , we WILL see you again (Mom is earning Air Miles for us all) and generations of us will continue to salut avec toi when it's 5 o-clock somewhere. Jean was a very private man, not one for formalities, and shied away from being the center of attention. In honour of his wishes, an intimate family gathering was held and his family will spread his ashes at the family farm and at his childhood home in Ste. Germaine, Quebec. To those who wish to pay him respect, he would have simply appreciated a casual toast in his memory. Friends and neighbours wishing to celebrate his life or pay respect to the family are welcome to drop by for an informal gathering at the Erinview Fire Hall (inter-section of hwys 415 and 322) anytime between 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2012. Donations to the Southwest District Palliative Care Foundation (Teulon), or the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital Foundation are welcome.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Dear Nancy and family, I will remember your husband as a man with such a commanding presence and a great heart! When I saw the obit the other day, it brought back a lot of memories of my time on the Ranch and having grown up in a wonderful neighbourhood with outstanding people. I'm sorry I couldn't make it out to the firehall to see you, as I would have expressed my sympathy to you in person and would definately have given lots of hugs. Take care and cherish your memories! Sincerely, Donna Valen & family - Posted by: Donna Valen (Coverdale) (former neighbour) on: Oct 22, 2012
