  • Mr.Campbell was a big impact on my life as a teacher and a friend. I followed him from Faraday School to St. Johns High cause he was my favorite teacher. I was sad to hear that he had passed away. I wish I could seen him one last time but I know he's in a better place now. I wish my condolences to his family and loved ones. - Posted by: Laura Westwood (Teacher ) on: Apr 01, 2022

  • I am truly shocked and saddened by Rod's passing. He was a true gent and an amazing athlete. I had the honour of playing rugby alongside this mountain of a man. His stature and personality were of equal measure. My condolences to Kim and Rod's family. - Posted by: Andy Harmston (Winnipeg wanderers teammate ) on: Aug 24, 2013

  • I am sorry to hear of Rod's passing. We go back a long way to the days of Nordale & Nelson McIntyre, training together and many road trips together. We were the provincial track and field champions 2 years in a row, and Rod was a big part of that. One of my more vivid memories was driving to Calgary in the front seat of an old Ford stuffed between Rod and our coach Bruce Pirnie both men, 280lbs. or more..you get the picture...I am glad to see he became a teacher and touched so many people lives in a positive way..you will be missed. - Posted by: Ray Pichette (High School & Nelson McIntyre Track Team Members) on: Oct 23, 2012

  • Mr. Campbell had such a larger than life personality and it was beautiful. I remember as a kid being so afraid of him because of his stature, but once you got to know him.. he was a gentle giant. His chuckle was infectious. All he wanted was to see all of his students succeed. It was an honour to have known him. Rest in peace Mr. C! - Posted by: Michelle (Former Student (Faraday)) on: Oct 23, 2012

  • I was in shock to hear about Mr. Campbell's passing. I have fond memories of Mr. Campbell catching me skip class. He was always lurking behind a corner or something LOL. His warm personality, Big Hugs and kind words were so natural, yes he did push you to succeed and when you yelled at him out of frustration he yelled back.. then you both started laughing !! until we meet again my friend - Posted by: Rhonda Funk (old student at SJHS, Athlete) on: Oct 22, 2012

  • Rod was the coach who helped me become the rugby player that I am today. So grateful to have been coached by him, he taught myself and the team to fight hard and never give up. Rod will be missed, but never forgotten, he made a huge impact on the Oak Park Girls Rugby Team. - Posted by: Amy Moyer (former athlete Oak Park Rugby) on: Oct 18, 2012

  • Rod was truly an amazing man. I met this gentle giant (quoting many who knew him) when I went to Faraday elementary. He then got a position at St. John's High School. What a coincidence that we both left Faraday and started at St. John's at the same time. Who knew you were going to be a huge part of my life and have such an amazing impact...he watched my brother, sister, and myself grow up and always looked out for us. He coached me all throughout my junior high/high school career. Not only did he teach me how to throw the shot and discus, he taught me many life learning lessons. He helped me see (along with many other students and athletes) that North End kids could reach for the stars. If we truly worked hard for what we wanted, we would achieve our goals. That we should never give up on our dreams. He truly inspired me to become the best I could be. I am extremely grateful for the visit we had in June and that I got a big bear hug from him one last time. Rod - thank you for your patience, humour, and wisdom. You were always there for me (the good and the bad). You are one of the reasons why I am who I am today. Rest now...and I know you are looking down on Kim, your family, and your friends. We love you and you will ALWAYS have a place in our hearts. SJHS track forever. - Posted by: Monnette Calixto (Former Athlete (SJHS), Friend, Family) on: Oct 18, 2012

  • Life's not about all the steps you've taken, or all the places you have been, it's about the footprints you leave behind. – unknown You left large footprints. Fare thee well ”BEAR” - Posted by: Kim Reimer (collegue Faraday and Prince Charles) on: Oct 18, 2012

  • I was shocked to hear the news. He was my teacher for 3 years at St. Johns and was one of the best! He was so kind and always made me laugh! I would call him the gentle giant...he was a big guy but had a big heart and loved all his students! You will be sadly missed but we still have all the good memories.... • Rod, you will be missed by many walks of life. I have now known you since 1994 when I became a member of the Wanderers Rugby Club. Got to know you well on the trip to Brooking South Dakota that year when we drove there with Solo. You were a beast on the pitch and a gentle giant off of it. The club lost a great member with your passing and a great friend and coach. Your towering presence will be greatly missed. - Posted by: MIke Menard (teammate) on: Oct 18, 2012

  • I had the pleasure of knowing Rod for nearly 15 years. Rod was a polarizing guy. I think most would say they had a love/hate relationship with him, hate because of how hard he would make them work and love becaus he brought out the best in them. Rarely would we see things eye to eye, especially since he was like 7'9"... I myself am surprised at how much his loss has affected me... I'll never forget his last words to me and will always honor them. Rod, I didn't always like you, but I always respected you. Like everything else in life, you don't know what you've got until it's gone. - Posted by: Jeff Martel () on: Oct 17, 2012

  • Many condolences to the family and friends of a great and dear colleague at St John's High School. A giant man with a giant heart, approachable, likeable, friendly, and not to be messed with. On that note I recall parking my truck in a way impinging athlete's access to the practise field. I was soon given a lecture that I would not forget. A man of principles with a heart for his athletes and students. Rod, you may be gone but not forgotten. Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Paul McLeod (colleague) on: Oct 17, 2012
