MILDRED (GRACE) SPENCER (nee MCDOWELL) 1917 - 2012 Mildred Grace Spencer was born on November 29, 1917 on the McDowell farm near Manitou, MB. She was one of seven siblings of which her only brother Andrew, survives her. Grace trained as a nurse in Morden for three years and then moved to Winnipeg. In 1943 she married Bob Scarrow and after the Second World War, they purchased and operated the Steinbach Creamery for seven years. Bob contracted polio and passed away on May 9, 1953. Grace then moved back to Winnipeg with her son Donald. There Grace raised Donald and worked at both The Blue Cross and the Manitoba Health Services Commission. In 1974 Grace married Orval Spencer. During this part of her life Grace enjoyed the Jets, curling, fitness and travel. She travelled with her sisters to Hawaii, Florida, California, Europe and all across Canada. She also travelled to faraway locales such as Australia, Spain and Mexico on visits to Donald and his wife Donna. Grace became an integral part of the Spencer family before and after Orval passed in 1992. She was a caring friend and Grandmother to many Spencer offspring. She is survived by her brother Andrew (Dorothy); her son Donald (Donna); her stepchildren Jim (Karen), Joan (Clark), Craig (Donna), and Kathy (Bob). Grace was always interested to know the comings and goings of her 11 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. Grace had a full, independent and rewarding life. She will be greatly missed by all who remain to remember her beauty-both inside and out. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thomson Funeral Home located at 669 Broadway in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. • Aunt Grace was a large part of my life as after losing Uncle Bob she moved into Winnipeg to live. We visited her every time we came home to Winnipeg to see my Mother and Al's mother. I have many fond memories of her. Marlene Reimer (nee Gemmell) - Posted by: Marlene Reimer (Neice) on: Oct 20, 2012

  • Grandma was a little powerhouse. I remember her going off to seniors aerobics classes while grandpa sat at home. - Posted by: Sheri Spencer (Granddaughter) on: Oct 18, 2012
