Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • A while back, Bill and Margaret used to come to Pineridge Hollow to enjoy a cinnamon bun and a walk through the gardens. How I loved seeing them and being able to serve them. Bill always made me smile, he was so kind. After Margaret's passing, he'd come in still once in awhile. I don't recall but I think he was with an adult day program at that point. To him, I was more than likely just another girl serving up some food but to me, he was someone who made my heart smile. His smile was always so big, his heart was always so warm and he was so genuine. I loved his button-up sweaters and his suspenders. Though I only knew him as our guest, he was my idea of the perfect Grandfather.. Sadly, after having not seen him for a long while I assumed the worst and I only stumbled upon his obituary now. It's incredibly late in coming, but I had wanted to offer my most sincere condolences to the family of one of my most memorable guests. Thank you for sharing such a truly wonderful man. - Posted by: Brandy Stelter (Server at Pineridge Hollow) on: Mar 02, 2014

  • Bob, Terry & family, my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your father, father-in-law and grandfather. My Mom and Dad often talked about meeting your Mom and Dad when they first came to Canada and how they lived kitty corner to them, and by how helpful they were in helping Mom and Dad adapt to a new country and a new way of life. He was a great guy to just sit down and talk with, and I had the pleasure of doing that several times over the years. He will be missed. - Posted by: Theresa (Langeler) Crowe (friend of the Family) on: Oct 31, 2012

  • One of my memories of Uncle Bill was his joke book. He always wanted to make people smile. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Judi Mate (Niece) on: Oct 22, 2012

  • We have fond memories of Uncle Bill's hospitality and cheerfulness. New Year's day on River Road with Uncle Bill, Aunt Gertie and family was a great way to start the year. Visits on Eidelweiss were always enjoyable, also in later years with Margaret. We'll miss him. - Posted by: Roel & Jane Van Leeuwen (Niece & nephew) on: Oct 21, 2012

  • I enjoyed the New Years day dinners and visits with Uncle Bill and Aunt Gertie - there is a special place in my heart for the two of these people. Saw Uncle Bill a few years ago at his favorite resturant - Smitty's and as always he was the jovial person that I remember even from childhood. My thoughts are with cousin Bob and the family - Posted by: Mildred Schoniger nee Paulusma (niece) on: Oct 21, 2012

  • Bill was a wonderful neighbour for many years. We enjoyed many conversations and admired your skills with the flower gardens. God grant you his garden to tend. - Posted by: Chuck and Kim Schau (Friend and neighbour) on: Oct 20, 2012

  • For me, uncle Bill will be remembered as my uncle who always offered to help me when I was growing up. I enjoyed going to Sprong's Drive in Greenhouse with my dad for visits and sitting down listening to uncle Bill tell stories about trips he and my aunt would take. They travelled all over the world, taking hundreds of pictures every time. We would sit for hours and flip through pictures of the many trips they took from all over the world. He would have hundreds and hundreds of pictures from every trip all developed and placed out in front of you for your viewing pleasure. He loved to take pictures and tell you about the whole trip from start to finish, and no matter how long it would take, we would sit there and listen while eating way too many cookies and cake that would be on the table for all to enjoy. He enjoyed having company come over to visit and also enjoyed going to visit all his friends and relatives. The last few years had been hard for uncle Bill with his health failing, but he still enjoyed a few moments of laughter every now and then on the good days. But I know he is in better place now. Rest in peace uncle Bill. - Posted by: Hank & Susan Sprong (Nephew) on: Oct 17, 2012

  • I remember the good times we had at the family gatherings Uncle Bill and my Aunt Gertie hosted on several occasions. There were tractor rides for the kids, horseshoes for the adults and always great food. He was always happy to see company and everyone was always welcome. A great guy ...rest in peace, Uncle Bill! - Posted by: Joan Proteau (Niece) on: Oct 17, 2012
