MERVIN (MERV) HAMILTON In loving memory of Mervin (Merv) Hamilton of Winnipeg, Manitoba (1929-2012). Mervin was born with his twin brother to Phyllis and Alexander Hamilton on June 19, 1929, in Warner, Alberta. The family moved to Lethbridge in 1932 where he grew up with his large extended family. Many summers were enjoyed at their grandparent's farm. He also shared stories of his positive experiences as a young cadet. It was in Taber, Alberta, where he met and married Katherine Karras, and soon after they started a family of their own. They were blessed with four children: Loreen, Valerie, Rodney (Joy), Glenn (Cindy); five grandchildren: Cyndi, Jennifer, Meaghan (Devin), Matthew, Daniel and four great-grandchildren: Travis, Karinda, Brooklyn, and Hayden. It was important for dad to support his family in their life experiences. For over thirty years, Merv served Canadians as an administrator for Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration and Agriculture Canada in a number of communities across the prairies. With an outgoing personality, he developed many relationships in the communities he worked. Merv was a long-standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and enjoyed its many functions and gatherings. His interests included golfing, curling and gardening until he passed away at the age of 83 on October 15, 2012. In honour of his life, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Chapel Lawn Funeral H0ome, 400 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to the charity of your choice. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • Our deepest sympathy goes out to you Val (and your family). You would always speak about your dad with so much respect, admiration and love. I know you will miss him dearly. - Posted by: Debbie & Roy Eldridge () on: Oct 23, 2012

  • It was my deepest honour to be able to travel to Winnipeg to be with my cousins and extended family at the time of Uncle Merv's funeral. I thank each and every person I spent time with for sharing their stories of growing up with me, and for allowing me to share mine. Unfortunately, over the years we have gone in separate directions, but as a tribute to your dad I will do my best to maintain contact with you all. - Posted by: Kent Masson (nephew) on: Oct 22, 2012

  • We are all sorry for the loss of your Father and we shall miss those unexpected visits (which we always enjoyed) or phone calls over the years. Although we have not seen most of you for quite some time, your Father had always kept us up to date on how everyone was. We especially enjoyed the pictures of Merv's 80th Birthday Party with all the kids there. I am sure that Matthew will always remember his road trip out to Taber and Lethbridge with his Grandpa, and meeting (Matthew) cousins, etc. he had never met. We know that Merv enjoyed seeing everyone again, especially as it was a Wedding Party (got married in Cuba in May) for Channel and Tanner (held on June 19, the twins Birthday) at the Elks Park in Lethbridge. Love the Karras' - Posted by: Charles & LoAnne Karras, Brian Karras, George Karras, Charlyne Russell, Darren Karras, Chris Karras (In-laws and cousins) on: Oct 19, 2012

  • Uncle Merv would come home to Lethbridge whenever the opportunity gave way. You could always be assured of laughter ringing out across the house. I will always remember some of the jokes pulled. Now, I guess we know Sunday Dinner will be served 7 days a week. - Posted by: Greg Masson (nephew) on: Oct 19, 2012
