Doreen was also predeceased by her parents Robert and Gertrude (Jeffery) Clements and parents-in-law James and Annie (Doughty) Bean. Doreen was born on July 24, 1919, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. She met Dad at the age of 21 when he was in Canada as an instructor with the Royal Air Force (RAF) in Swift Current. They were married in January of 1944. Mom and Dad moved to England for a brief period at the end of the war where their first son Desmond was born. They eventually returned to Canada and settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Bean family continued to grow for many years with the addition of three more children and six grandchildren. Mom instilled a strong work ethic in all of her children, family values, respect, honesty, thrift and sense of humour. The family spent many happy and relaxing summers at the cottage on Longbow Lake, Ontario. Mom and Dad also enjoyed many years of travel and became active players of duplicate bridge in their retirement years. Doreen enjoyed family gatherings, preparing fabulous Sunday and Christmas dinners (Roast Beef, Yorkshire Pudding, and Red Velvet Cake being specialties), lively discussions, and the love of her children and grandchildren. Mom will be well remembered by her friends and family alike for her passion and enjoyment of family, the cottage, and lengthy volunteer activities at the Museum of Man and Nature in the 1970s and 1980s. She had a talent for singing and art, dabbling in watercolours, sculpture and pottery. Anecdotes of Mom and Dad's pursuits will continue to provide pleasure to the family for years to come, we miss you Mom. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. The family wish to extend their gratitude to the staff at Tuxedo Extendicare for their care of Mom in her last years.
