Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET (PEGGY) GOODALE (nee AVERY) October 19, 2012 Margaret (Peggy) Goodale, mother, grandmother, blessed great-grandmother, or Gran, was born in Newcastle on Tyne, England on December 17, 1915. She lived through almost a century of political, economical and technological change. She is probably one of maybe a dozen bold women from her generation to embrace the computer age, and was, until recently, an avid Facebook user. With her passing, Peggy leaves behind her son Dennis (wife Rosalie) and daughter Jean Marrese (husband Duncan), to celebrate her reunion with her husband, Percival Goodale, who left us previously on August 4, 1994. Peggy and Percival were married in Montreal, Quebec on May 28, 1938, eight years after she immigrated to Canada. The couple and their family moved many times before they finally settled in Winnipeg in 1971. Peggy secretly tapped the fountain of youth and aged gracefully. She remained in excellent physical and mental shape until her very last days. She lived at Westwood House until the end, still making cookies for her six grandchildren, knitting scarves and booties for her eight great-grandchildren, and attending St. Andrews Anglican Church with her friends on a weekly basis. She loved watching curling bonspiels, getting her hair done and the occasional nip of Drambuie or red wine after Sunday dinners with the family. Peggy loved her family and they loved her deeply in return. Before she succumbed to her brief illness, she had the opportunity to say goodbye to her two children and their spouses and all six grandchildren and their spouses as they gathered by her bedside for one final family get-together. She died peacefully in her sleep a day later. In sorrow we must go, but not in despair. Behold! We are not bound forever to the circles of the world, and beyond them is more than memory. - J.R.R. Tolkien. The family would like to thank the third floor staff at Grace Hospital for their compassionate care and attention. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Flowers are gratefully declined. But please feel free to make a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society in honour of Peggy's memory. She loved animals and your donation will continue her legacy of love.
