CALLIN It is with unbelievable sadness that our precious Uncle Cal, Frank Russel Callin, passed away October 22, 2012 at the Victoria Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 94. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces, Judy Partridge-Stanford (Grant), Ginny Kersch (Allan), nephew Douglas Brown (Gloria), great-nephews, Shaun, Scott Partridge, Todd and Michael Brown, Jeff and Ryan Brown, Graham Kersch, great-nieces, Jamie McCowan, Erin Reed and Chelsea Kersch-Roch Predeceased by his wife Wynne in 1990, brother-in-law Frank Brown, nephews, Ron Brown, Stan Brown, brothers William Callin, George Callin, sister Agnes Ellen and a great family friend Phyllis Williams. Cal was born in the small rural town of Percival, SK on September 18, 1918. He lost his mother at the tender age of seven and he and his brother George were sent to the Orange Home for Boys in Indian Head, SK till he was 14 years old. Cal's father and stepmother brought him back to the farm to help with the farm. In 1940 he hopped a freight train with only $5.00 and the clothes on his back, walked to Dugald Road from the downtown train station and enlisted in the armed services. He served during the Second World War in England and France in the Royal Canadian Regiment Signal Corp. He was discharged from the Army in 1945 and moved to Winnipeg and apprenticed for five years for A.B. Silverman in watch repair and maintenance. In 1952 Cal went to work at Norwood Jeweller's. He bought the business in 1954 and continued operating his business until the late 1970s. His watch repair business included servicing and watch repair for the CNR employee's and different jewellery stores (such as the Diamond Gallery) in rural Manitoba and Winnipeg. After selling Norwood Jeweller's he continued to do watch repairs from his own home until his passing. Cal was very involved with curling, golf and bowling. He was a member of the St. Boniface Golf Club and he curled with the Fort Garry and Granite Curling Clubs. He was a member of the St. James Legion for the past 22 years where he loved to have a meal on a Saturday night and visit friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Palliative Care at the Victoria Hospital for their compassion and care of our Uncle. We performed Frank's snow removal/grass cutting and other maintenance tasks and enjoyed our visits. I know he loved to golf and hope he is now enjoying daily rounds in the bright sunshine. He was a truly lovely man - kind, considerate and gentle. We will miss our weekly visits. I am sorry we didn't know he was ill as we would have visited. My sincere condolences to his family. - Posted by: nancy arason & ray dudar (none) on: Nov 02, 2012

Us kids always looked forward to going to Uncle Cal's store to see what new items he had. Aunty Wynne & Uncle Cal were long time friends with my parents Gwen & Harold Hobbs. Uncle Cal hid a watch one year at Christmas time for my parents, just so I wouldn't purchase it. You will always be remembered in our hearts! - Posted by: Peggy (nee: Hobbs) Leuschen (Long time friend) on: Oct 25, 2012

My Deepest Condolences to the Family. I spent many hours with Frank, as he patiently shared & taught me his Watchmaking skills. We spent many hours together looking thru picture albums & talking about all his memories which I know he enjoyed immensely. We would often share a cup of tea, talk & watch golf on Saturday afternoons, until it was time to meet Doug at the Legion for Saturday supper. Frank was the Kindest,Patient,Gentlest person I ever met. He was a true Gentleman. I will miss Frank deeply & cherish the many hours I spent with him. God Bless Frank - Posted by: Shawn Johnston (Friend) on: Oct 25, 2012
