SANDRA KAWA (ELLCHUK) It is with deep sorrow that the Kawa family announces the passing of Sandra (Ellchuk) Kawa at the age of 67. She was surrounded by her loving family as she went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Saviour on October 20, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer. She is predeceased by her brother, David Ellchuk, and her father, Peter Ellchuk. Sandra is survived by Dennis, her first love, her best friend, and her husband of 47 years. They were married in Elphinstone, MB on August 7, 1965. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Dennis, her mother Nellie Ellchuk, her children Tara Reimer (Darcy), Tammy Neufeld (Greg), Keith Kawa (Julie), Julianne Curran (Mark), and her eight grandchildren whom she absolutely adored and loved to spend time with: Bronwyn, Jackson, Hannah, Cole, Joshua, Elizabeth, James and Caroline. Sandra was born on May 27, 1945 in the Rural Municipality of Strathclair, MB. She graduated from Manitoba Teacher's College in 1964, and taught primary school in Winnipeg for three years before dedicating her time and attention to raising her four children. "Grandma" was a fantastic cook and there are countless people who have been blessed by her meals and warm hospitality over the years. She was also an accomplished gardener and created a haven of beauty in her own backyard. Sandra's greatest passion, however, was people. She was always thinking of others first; her family, her friends, and those in need of a helping hand. Sandra was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and a special friend to many. Her happiest times were spent with family and friends. She was a hardworking, energetic and determined woman whose caring personality had a way of drawing others towards her. She was blessed with many wonderful and lasting friendships throughout her life for which she was very grateful. Her faith and love of God gave her the strength to face the challenges she experienced. A Celebration Service of Sandra's life will be held on Saturday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Ness Avenue Baptist Church, 2700 Ness Ave. in Winnipeg, MB, her church family for the last 37 years, and a place where she served faithfully. A private family interment will take place preceding the Celebration Service. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Patricia Harris, the staff at Grace CancerCare, and Dr. Alvin Schroeder. With her husband by her side, Sandra was able to be at home until her final week. We would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital and Riverview for the quality care and kindness shown during her last days. We would also like to thank family and friends for all their love and care expressed through countless cards, meals, flowers, visits and prayer support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, the Gideons International, or a charity of your choice. "Grandma, you are deeply loved, sadly missed, and always remembered". Remembrances and condolences may be emailed to raesfs@mymts.net Rae's Funeral Service of Shoal Lake, is in care of arrangements. • My deep condolences to family. She was a lovely lovely lady and I have warm memories of her at Ness. I will always remember Mrs. Kawa's very warm and welcoming smile and pleasant talks we had. Her character of a Godly woman was evident. She exemplified warmth, loving, unselfishness, treating others as equals, hospitality, and a wanting to be obedient to our Lord. It was a blessing to fellowship to her and I praise our Lord for His grace in her life.
