Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHANNAH (ELVA) TURNBULL December 28, 1932 - October 21, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, Hannah 'Elva' Turnbull (Nee Park) on October 21, 2012. To encapsulate our Mother in a few words is impossible; those of us touched by her know why. She truly was a blessing, an angel on this earth. Born in December of 1932 and raised in Headingley MB, Elva was the third child of four to Alexander and Mary (Waugh) Park. Raised in the Depression Era, Elva learned early by the example of her parents, to share the fruits of labour and assist those in need. These morals and values she lived by her entire life. Having lost her own mother at a very early age, Elva lived by her Mother's written word-- to face adversity with courage and move forward with strength. A role model to her younger brother Bill, Elva was a selfless caregiver with unwavering commitment to his upbringing, his health, his happiness. Elva in later years developed a wonderful bond with her Stepmother Gertie, and again assumed the role of caregiver to both her Father and Gertie in their time of need. Her young adult life was marked by her marriage to Jack Turnbull; together producing three children; her pride, her joy, her life. To this day Elva proudly adorned her home with school momentos she cherished from years gone by and surrounded herself with family photos. 'Grammy' to her grandchildren, she loved to recount stories of the 'old days' and many times over was asked to tell the story again; she would gladly oblige. A well-read intelligent individual, our mother was a wealth of knowledge. Whether it be to engage in conversation on current affairs, offer a solution for home repair or provide facts on medical research, Elva always enjoyed an opportunity to share her knowledge and help with a solution. Elva retired as a Supervisor from M.T.S. where she was known as a kind, gentle, compassionate and humourous individual; A friend to all. It was in her retirement years that she again gave whole heartedly of herself to assist family and in spare time volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Her 'breakfast club' friends will remember her fondly and miss her terribly. Our mother was our best friend, our greatest support, our confidante. She always had time for her kids. We will remember her laughter, her love. To know our mother you were truly in the company of an exceptional woman. To live by her example would make the world a better place. Survived by her brother Jim (Jean) Park, sister Noreen Hale, her children Brad (Mariuccia) Turnbull, Donna (Barry) Mcatasney and Elva-Lynn Turnbull. Her grandchildren Cara (Sergio) Palmeiro, Clayton Turnbull, Carl Turnbull, Hayden and Brynn Mcatasney, and Brooke Turnbull. Great-grandchildren Lucas and Samuel Palmeiro, Breanna and Natalie Turnbull, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored. Predeceased by Parents Alex and Mary Park and Bill Park. We would like to acknowledge and give special thanks to Teresa and Candice for their valiant efforts at helping our mother in her moment of need. We are so grateful for your kindness and willingness to help. ln honour of our mother's wishes a private celebration of life will be held. We love you mum, we thank God to have been blessed with you. I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Her obituary was very well written as that described her perfectly. She was a great friend and co-worker. She was always available to those in need. I had many long conversations with her and I will always remember the last one we had in September. She loved life and everyone around her. My most sincere condolences to the whole family - Posted by: Linda Thompson (MTS co-worker) on: Oct 28, 2012

I was a co worker at radio station CKRC with Jack. He invited me over to their apartment on Osborne for supper where I first met Elva. I have fond memories of her "dry" humour, my favorite kind. She was one of those that one instamt;y liked and never had any reason to alter that feeling as the years passed. I'm so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Murray Parker (friend) on: Oct 27, 2012

So sorry to hear of your loss. I hadn't seen your Mom for a really long time, but I remember her as a kind woman who always welcomed us into her home. Those visits with your family were some of most enjoyable times of my childhood and your Mom made them even better. My love affair with chili-con-carne began with the big helping she served to me at your house. - Posted by: Charlotte Cels () on: Oct 27, 2012

I'm so sorry for your loss. Moms are everything in a child's life, no matter how old you are. I met Elva in 1986 through Lila and Pauline. We would go for walks, and do coffee and lunch. She was always good for a giggle. All the beautiful words that were written about Elva are so true. Your Mom was a lovely caring lady inside and out and she will be missed. I've recently returned to Thunder Bay, but always liked to catch up with Elva when I was in Winnipeg, but now I can't. - Posted by: Frances Bobinski, Thunder Bay Ontario (friend) on: Oct 26, 2012
