JOANNE VAN LIESHOUT March 25, 1933 - October 24, 2012 Joanne Van Lieshout, beloved by her family and friends, passed away peacefully at Donwood Manor on October 24, 2012. She leaves behind her loving husband Jack with whom she shared 57 years of marriage. Joanne is survived by sons Jack (wife Chris), Roger (partner Shawn) and Robert, nephew Nick (wife Louise). Her first of four sons John passed in infancy. She was very proud of her four grandchildren Kevin, Robert, Amanda and Colin who all reside in Winnipeg. She is also survived by her brother Jos and sister Anne who reside in Holland, along with nieces and nephews in both Holland and Canada. Joanne was born in Waalwijk, The Netherlands, on March 25, 1933. She grew up in the midst of adversity through the depression and the Second World War, and then immigrated with her family to Canada in March 1954. It was on that ocean voyage where she met her husband. The family traveled by train from Halifax to Winnipeg, and later she married Jack and they worked hard to buy a home in St. Vital and raise their family. For many years Joanne provided part time domestic service for area seniors. She enjoyed traveling including trips to Holland to visit family, and extended summer camping trips to Falcon Lake with her husband and boys. When husband Jack retired in 1991 much of their time was spent at their Wallace Lake cabin where she loved to be and host family and friends. Despite much hardship Joanne was happy and grateful for a wonderful life. She is remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and as a warm, funny, provocative and adventurous woman who lived her life out loud and with great zest. She will be interred at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens following a private family service. Friends are invited to Donwood Manor, 165 Donwood Drive on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for an informal gathering. Her family extends its deepest gratitude to the staff at Donwood Manor for their exceptional care. Should friends so desire, a donation to the Donwood Manor Foundation in lieu of flowers is appreciated. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • It brings back fond memories when our families were together at the dining room table having coffee, cake, conversation and remembering Tante Jo's contagious laugh! Condolences to the family, so sorry to hear about the news. - Posted by: Jo-Anne van Drunen Webber () on: Oct 30, 2012

  • Our thoughts are with you at this time. Very fond memories of Tante Jo that we will always remember and keep with us always in our hearts. From Riet Bev Jo Anne and family. - Posted by: Bev Wadia(van Drunen) () on: Oct 29, 2012

  • As a friend of her son Rob, I remember Mrs. V's hospitality, and caring for us as we grew up. I also remember her patience as Rob and I played loud music in his basement bedroom. She would bang on the floor with a broom and Rob and I pretended not to hear her... It's one of the great happy memories I have of her, and I send my condolences to the family. - Posted by: Glen Cassie (friend) on: Oct 28, 2012
