Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH AGNETE LOUISE MCDOWELL (nee BERG) November 4, 1911 - September 23, 2012 Edith passed away peacefully on a beautiful autumn day, Sunday, September 23, 2012 in the Palliative Care ward of the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. During the 100 years of her life, Edith has seen many of her loved ones; both family and friends pass away. She is survived by her brother, Alex Berg; numerous nieces and nephews and their children; and cousins in Canada, the USA, and Norway. Edith was born in Winnipeg, the second eldest of seven children of Peter Berg and Sofia Tronrud. She lived with her family in Inwood, Manitoba and left home at an early age to work in Winnipeg. She moved to the USA in 1949 and permanently returned to Winnipeg in 1996. She lived independently in her apartment at Fort Garry Place until she was taken to the hospital for the last time on Tuesday, September 11 as a result of a recent decline in her health. Edith was a remarkable woman. She had a strong spirit and character combined with grace and elegance. She worked very hard to create a beautiful life, taking care in all that she did and excelling in every task she undertook. Edith had a great appreciation of women's fashion apparel and dressed impeccably. She was an excellent cook and a gracious hostess. She had a good sense of humour. Edith treasured her family and friends and loved them very deeply. Edith was able to remain as independent as possible over the passing years with the assistance of many family members, friends, and community services. She appreciated the phone calls, visits, and care she received. The family wishes to sincerely thank Sue and Stan Hryciw, Ron Berg, and Beverley Hardy for the extra special support they provided to Edith. We also thank her friends at Fort Garry Place; many individuals who provided personal services; Home Care, health care professionals, and most recently the staff at the Palliative Care ward of the Riverview Health Centre, for their kind and compassionate care for Edith. Cremation has taken place. The family will be holding a memorial service to honour Edith's life on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery).
