IRENE ELLEN AUDLEY (nee KURBIS) June 29, 1927 - October 29, 2012 It is with heavy hearts that we announce that on Monday, October 29, 2012 Irene passed away with her family at her side. Irene was predeceased by her son Jimmy, brother Walter Kurbis and sister Helen Ostapchuk. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Cliff, of 63 years, her children: Greg Audley (Roberta), Lois Behlke (Hal), grandchildren, Dustin (Ashleigh), Greg, Alexis, Kristian, and great-grandchildren, Preston, Hannah, Austin and Logan. Also surviving are her sisters Ella Harlos and Marlene Schlippert (Arnie), brother-in-law Fred Ostapchuk and dearest friend of 65 years, Muriel Stoppel as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was raised on a farm in Ashern, MB and moved to Winnipeg when she was 16. She worked at Eaton's Mail Order until she married Cliff, the love of her life, in July 1949. Irene supported Cliff as a partner/bookkeeper in running the family trucking business. She enjoyed doing hobbies such as sewing and needlepoint and did many hours of volunteer work especially for the seniors. One of her many accomplishments in life was being instrumental in organizing and running the Cross Golden Age Club, a senior's group at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, which she ran for 35 years. A few years back she received a Humanitarian award in recognition of her volunteer work. Her love of travel took her and Cliff to many parts of the world, but her favourite places were at home or the cottage in the Lac du Bonnet area where family and friends could drop by any time for a visit. When she was at the cottage she enjoyed her long walks and Happy Hours on the dock. Irene was devoted to her family and was always happiest when surrounded by her family and friends The family would like to thank the staff at Lion's Manor Personal Care for their amazing care and kindness. We would also like to thank her previous Home Care Nurse, Clark Gallagher, for his thoughtfulness and to the wonderful care he also provided. A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington Street, Saturday, November 3 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. "Mom, we love you and will always miss you, your unconditional love, your warm hugs, and your wonderful sense of humour" NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Dear Cliff, Lois, Greg and families, we are sorry for your loss. We have wonderful memories of Irene, and the friendship that existed for so many years between my parents, Gert and Carl Miller, and you and Irene. I admired Irene for the many years (35!) that she spent at the helm of the Golden Age Club at the Church - my grandmother enjoyed the club and I remember going along as a tween on a few river boat rides "with the old people". Irene's passing leaves a huge void in your family - we know she will be sorely missed. You have our deepest sympathy. - Posted by: Susan and Dan Hope (old family friend) on: Nov 01, 2012

  • Our deepest sympathies to you and your family Cliff. Irene was a wonderful lady and will be missed. We've also missed the both of you standing at the door as greeters after the German service .... God bless you! - Posted by: Irene Klotz (friend) on: Nov 01, 2012

  • Cliff and Family, I have many wonderful memories of Irene when I worked as the secretary at the Church of the Cross in the mid 1990's. I loved being included in the Golden Ager's coffee each Friday and especially the Christmas parties! Irene had a heart of gold and I know you will miss her terribly. God's blessings to you all in this time of sadness and sorrow. With my deepest condolences. - Posted by: Andrea Otto Grozli (Friend) on: Nov 01, 2012
