Predeceased by his loving wife Verlie and parents Robert and Minnie Jane Reid, he is survived and will forever be remembered by daughters Sandra Janssen, Gloria and son-in-law Curtis Wetyk; son Darren Reid and daughter-in-law Barbara; sister-in-law Nonie Hutchison; grandsons Paul Janssen, Sam Wetyk and Jagger Reid; granddaughters Jennifer Iverson (Shaun Mclachlan), Lisa Janssen (Holly Kimola), Megan Janssen, Lindsay Wetyk, Sarah Wetyk, Nicole Reid and Haley Reid. His brother Ross Reid and sister-in-law Kathleen; sister Aida Kinnaird. Nephews, nieces and cousins will also remember him. William was born on April 11, 1930 at the family farm on SE 22-8-29 in the Rural Municipality of Pipestone. He was raised on the family farm surrounded by his four brothers and four sisters before moving to the town of Virden, Manitoba with his parents when he was a teenager. He married Verlie Hutchison on June 18, 1953 at the St. Paul's United Church in Virden and moved to Winnipeg where they enjoyed over 53 years together. William was employed with the City of Winnipeg Transit System as a Bus Operator for 28 years before retiring in 1988. As much as he enjoyed his work, greater enjoyment came from the many family vacations throughout the years. Dad and Mom were fortunate to begin traveling early in their retirement years and enjoyed many winter holidays to Hawaii and Mexico, as well as a cruise through the Panama Canal and one to Alaska, Russia and Japan. For 10 years they enjoyed extended winter holidays at their home in the south, located in Trails End Park, Weslaco Texas. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at the Charleswood Care Centre and the Grace General Hospital for their care and compassion towards our father. In memory of Dad's love for Mom, donations may be made in their name to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Scleroderma Society of Canada. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. We will always hold you close within our hearts, And there you will remain, To walk with us throughout our lives, Until we meet again. Love always Your family and friends.
