VERNON LEONARD HALLSON Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Vern passed away at Grace Hospice on Wednesday, October 31 at the age of 54 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife and soul mate of 33 years, Linda, and the lights of his life, son Scott (Amy) and daughter Kelsey (Joey). Also surviving is his mom Leola, brothers Lyn (Gayle), Ken, Gerry (Gloria), Randy (Lisa), and sisters Carole (George) and Lore (Terry). He will be dearly missed by his many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, aunts, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his dad Harold and his mother-in-law, Josephine. Vern was born on December 26, 1957 in Glenboro, MB, the youngest of six. As a young child he moved with his family to Winnipeg. He took great pride in his career at MPI spanning over 30 years and very much respected and enjoyed the company of his colleagues. Always knowing that time was precious his priority was spending his time being the best husband and father he could be. He was devoted to his wife and kids and was grateful to be able to see his kids become the wonderful adults that they are. He lived a simple life with grace, dignity and courage wasting no time on anger or complaining. A jack-of-all trades, he happily spent many hours creating and caring for the home he had made for his family. We are grateful for all of the wonderful memories that we have. Thanks to those who helped us on this journey, those at CancerCare, the wonderful staff at Grace Hospice, family and friends. It has touched our hearts forever. Vern, you are forever in our hearts. A celebration of Vern's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, ON 1160-675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. I was so shocked to read that Vern had died at such a young age. I remember Vern from our days at General wolfe Jr. High, where he and I were in many of the same classes. Vern sat behind me in a Grade 9 class and we would chat a bit about this and that, and discovered that we were both brought up in the Lutheran faith and both endured 3 years of confirmation classes. Vern's obit was beautifully written and it is no surprise that the very nice boy who sat behind me grew to be a gentle and caring man. I am so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Susan Miller Hope (old school days friend) on: Nov 07, 2012

Vern and I worked together on a few occasions that allowed us time to get to know each other. We talked of his days at CJAY prior to MPI and his family. It was very clear, how important his family was to him. My deepest sympathy to his family. - Posted by: Dale Ramsdale (MPI) on: Nov 06, 2012

I knew Vern for many many years, since my mom married his brother Gerry many years ago. Every time I saw Vern and Linda together, I could always see the love they had for one another. Our deepest condolences to the family. Vern, you will be missed, but know you will be loved forever by so many. xo Bonnie and Greg in FL USA - Posted by: Bonnie and Greg Kempenich (daughter of Gloria/Vern's brother Gerry's wife) on: Nov 06, 2012

I'm so very saddened to hear of Vern's untimely passing. I worked with him for many years and know very well that he was a devoted family man. He once bought a Hondo flying Z guitar from me for his son and was very excited about presenting it to him. He had "proud poppa" written all over his face. We'll miss you Vern. - Posted by: Gerry Montanti (MPI colleague) on: Nov 05, 2012

Sincere condolences to the Hallson Family. My best friend is Vern's oldest brother. I remember Vern as a little blond haired boy when we grew up in Glenboro. While I had not seen him for years it is so sad to see him leave us at such a young age. - Posted by: Tom Oleson (Family Friend) on: Nov 04, 2012

I am so sorry to hear about Vern. I worked with Vern for years at MPI in the injury area. Although I was aware of his health challenges, he never complained and carried on doing his job. He was liked by everyone. I have very fond memories of Vern. My sincere condolences to his entire family. - Posted by: Joan Fortier (coworker MPI) on: Nov 04, 2012

I so sorry to hear that Vern has passed. I have very fond memories of playing in the park across the street from us on Victor where we had a little mishap with a five iron sorry Vern. I also remember going down to the Luthern church Where Mr Hallson worked the ladies of the church would feed us lemon cookies. R.I.P. Although it's been a number of years since I worked in the same MPI office as Vern, since the day I met him it was apparent that he was a true gentleman, and a person of integrity. He quickly earned the respect of fellow colleagues and was a true freind to many. He was a great guy. My condolences to his family. He will be missed. - Posted by: Ray Kroll (MPI colleague) on: Nov 03, 2012
