HAROLD HENRY WEITZEL It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear father, Harold Weitzel, on Monday evening, November 5, 2012 at St. Boniface Hospital. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Clara, children Rick and Jane, Brenda and Denis Monnier, and Brad and Paddy. He will be forever remembered by his five grandchildren and their significant others; Dean Weitzel, Todd Monnier and Elorie, Drew and Heather Monnier, Shannon and Ryan Unrau, and Chris Weitzel and Christy, as well as great-grandchildren, Ethan and Emma, Zoe, and Aaron. Harold is also survived by his brother Albert and sister Marlene, in-laws Doreen Weitzel, Walter and Reta Scholz, Janet Scholz, Herb and Arni Scholz, nieces, nephews, and many special friends. And not to be forgotten, his faithful four-legged companion, Koko. Harold was born in Winnipeg on May 29, 1926 to Anna and Jacob Weitzel. He was the second youngest of nine children. His courtship with our Mom began by falling over her during a volleyball game at Luther League and they were married on February 28, 1949. Dad was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church; then transferring to Faith Lutheran in 1979. He had a successful career at CN Rail, retiring in 1982 as General Superintendent of Equipment for the Prairie Region. Harold and Clara spent over 30 winters in Mazatlan, where they made countless friends. They considered this their second home. Getaways to the casino in Mahnomen were also a favourite. Carpenter, gardener, hobby farmer, champion crib player... our Dad was a man of many talents, a true master craftsman. He taught us well. Our Dad's happiest times were at family gatherings, surrounded by all his loved ones. BBQing a prime rib roast was by far his favourite thing to do. Pa was the center of our family. He leaves behind a legacy that will live on forever. He showed us his wisdom, strength, and integrity and will be sorely missed. He took great pride in watching his family succeed. His generosity towards his kids was endless. We would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at St. Boniface Hospital, 6E for the wonderful care they gave our Dad during his 10 week stay. He faced his illness and the ongoing complications with courage, and as Pa would say, One step at a time . Funeral Service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota St. at Southglen Blvd, St. Vital, on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Donations in Harold's name can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. Rest in peace, dear Dad. We'll love you forever.
