JOANNA SMITH (nee VANDERSTEEN) April 16, 1917 - November 6, 2012 The family announces the passing of their beloved mother. Left to greatly miss and lovingly remember Joanna are her sons Leonard (Krystyna), Ronald (Joyce), Melvin (Mary); grandchildren Caroline, David, Lea, Shannon and Cory; great-grandchildren Torrie, Tristan, Wyatt, Brooklyn and Phoenix; sister Alice Kosie; brothers Tim (Therese) and Herb (Rose); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Clifford; son Gordon; and grandson Dalen. Joanna was born and raised in Fisher Branch. She always said how much she enjoyed growing up on the farm and how she missed it. She spoke with great fondness of all her relatives and friends. She always looked forward to visits with them. Joanna was a very proud and encouraging mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She treasured many dear friends in her life who she drew strength from in different ways. She will be forever missed. On Monday, November 12, 2012 a Service of Remembrance will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. Interment will take place in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Our family thanks the management and friends at Amber Meadows and Seven Oaks Hospital care givers for their support. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • To the Smith family. I am very sad to learn of the passing of your Mother, as I learned from another neighbourhood friend (Perry Hastings). I have many fond memories of growing up in Rivercrest with Melvin and the gang, and always appreciated your family. Please accept my deepest sympathies at your loss.
