• Condolances to Mary Helen. I met John at Port Elgin Retiree Conferance years ago and he was one of the reasons I looked forward to going each year. A lot of laughs and comadrie. He conned me out of my jacket this year Local 303. He had a way of getting you on his side. Made him some wooden spoons and those that were there knew how he could play them at the dance. • I have known John for some years and spent every Sept long weekend traveling to Port Elgin with Jack, Marg and John. It was a blast. • John .....Family man, social activist, union brother and friend. John had a big heart. He would help anyone that had a problem..he would fix it or find someone who could. John and I became very close after he retired and formed the CAW Retiree Chapter 3005. Together with four other brothers we formed the CAW Manitoba Council of Retirees. John often told me that you cannot do everything yourself. You should share the work. This good advice is something that John did not listen to. John had a wonderful sense of humor. John as you know thought he and Joey Smallwood could fix darn near everything. Good bye my friend. Mary Helen... I would like to thank you for sharing John with all of us. • Jon boy was an internet friend whose cheerfulness was his standard behavior. Now, after so many years of back and forth notes, I cannot remember how we got started, how we "met" or any of those particulars. We just did and it was true joy to hear from him. I am deeply sorry that his "handle" is now silent. God gave us the power of memory for a reason and that was so we could lean back, remember and smile. That is just what I am going to do with my bushel basket full of memories created with Jon Boy. Take care all of you. • John and Mary Helen were best friends to my mom and dad. They were all CBers who were always there for each other. John helped with the roof when Papa B couldn't afford to hire help - something we never forgot. He was always joking around with Mama B and could always make her laugh. Whe another friend, Bob Johnson, was approaching the end of his journey on earth, John was there every day until the end. What an incredible man. • To the family, we are so sorry to learn of Johnny's passing. We spent many hours on internet, sending jokes and telling them and also sending music to dance by. We will miss him very much, but Mary Ellen you have to begin where Johnny left off, that's if u feel well. Please accept our deepest sympathy. • I spent many mornings having coffee with John and 2 other co-workers Fred (decessed) and Cheryl, he always had us laughing. John was a loving husband as he talked about Mary-Helen alot and her struggles with her health. • Where do we start about John. We all met in 1976 as Cber's on Ch. 2..what fun we had and we have remained good friends since. Both families being in the military at the time stationed in Winnipeg, Man. Even though we went separate ways we were always there for each other. John and I both went through cancer, and having breast cancer was no fun and either was his colon cancer...we cheered each other and made sure we stayed positive. John was a soldier, good father, grandfather, wonderful Husband to Mary Helen, and especially a good friend to all he met....his smile was catching and his laughter warming... • For the last 5 years I have had the pleasure of travelling with John, Jack and Coleen from Toronto to Port Elgin and back for the retiree conference. John kept us in stiches all the way with his stories and fast comments. The trip will never be the same again. He will be missed terribly. My condolences to all of his family.
