RUTH ESTHER CORDILEONE (nee LANDEN) September 9, 1937 - November 13, 2012 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, Ruth Cordileone on November 13, 2012, at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 75 years. Raised in Benito, Manitoba, Mom came to Winnipeg to pursue her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. She was a graduate of the school of nursing, class of 1959, from Winnipeg General Hospital and worked both at the General and Oakview Place during her career. Our mother was a kind and compassionate person who loved her chosen profession. Mom was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who would always place the needs of her family ahead of herself. Ruth is lovingly remembered by her children Mark (Cathy), Lisa ( Bert) and Marlene (Ed) and her grandchildren Andrew, Dayson, Jeremy, Hailey and Lauren, sisters-in-law Evelyn Landen and Josephine (Henry) Dellapenta. Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Bert, her parents Axel and Olga Landen, brothers Gunnar, Alfred and Les Landen, sister-in-law Theresa Anderson, and mother and father-in-law Alfonsina and Geremino (Jim) Cordileone. Aunty Ruth will be missed by her nieces and nephews. Mom enjoyed the friendship and company of her many friends and neighbours. She valued those times around the kitchen table, engaged in friendly conversation, and a cup of coffee. Ruth was an avid reader and had a strong appreciation for music. Our mother's character could be best described as honest, caring, unselfish and principled, all qualities which made her a great mother, wife, friend and nurse. Our family would like to extend a sincere Thank you to Dr. James Zacharias, for his care and compassion, as well as the doctors, nurses and staff at the Health Sciences Centre, 4th floor M.I.C.U. Flowers are graciously declined, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the The Kidney Foundation, Manitoba Branch, 1 - 452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3Y 1G4. • We would like to wish the Cordileone family our deepest sympathies - losing someone so very close to your hearts is very difficult - may God's strength and your faith help you through these difficult times. - Posted by: Diego and Domenica Vassallo (Friend of the family) on: Nov 18, 2012

  • I remember Ruth so well and with fondness from our 'training' days at WGH. Although I have lived in Victoria for many years, it was my pleasure to have had a wonderful visit with her at our 50th reunion in 2009. The words used in the obituary describe her beautifully. My condolences go out to all the family at this sad time. Cordelea Stokes - Posted by: Cordelea (Wood) Stokes (Nursing classmate of WGH Class of 1959 A) on: Nov 17, 2012

  • Ruth is fondly remembered by her nursing school classmates. Her sweet and caring nature was her most outstanding characteristic. She will be missed. - Posted by: Louise Gillman (59A classmate) on: Nov 17, 2012

  • Ruth's attributes are aptly described in the obituary. She was a very warm and un-assuming person, devoted to her children and grandchildren. I was privileged to have known Ruth and her late-husband Bert during the years Marlene and my step-son Ed have been together. - Posted by: Marion Collom (Friend and mother-in-law to Ruth's daughter Marlene) on: Nov 17, 2012
