GEORGE FERGUSON April 23, 1915 - November 12, 2012 George passed away in his 98 year on November 12, 2012 at the Oakview Care Home. George was predeceased by his wife Florence (nee Crolly) in 1988. George was the seventh child of John and Cecilia. He was predeceased by his brothers David, Frank, Stewart, Alfred, John, Leonard and his sister Muriel. George is survived by daughter Anne, who resides in Burlington, Ontario with her husband Douglas Stuart. George has a grandson Kenneth Stuart (Susanne) residing in Petersham, Massachusetts and a granddaughter Marion Bacon (Gordon) in Kamloops, BC. He has two great-grandchildren; Tyler James Stuart and Heather Stuart. George will be greatly missed by his family. Most of George's working life was spent with Silverwood Dairies. Starting as a Driver Salesman in 1941 in Winnipeg, his 35 year career contained a series of progressions through Sales and Branch Management positions culminating in the transfer to Toronto to manage the Silverwood Dupont Street Plant for five years. Prior to his retirement in 1976, he was located to the Head Office where he was Credit Manager for three years. George's time with Silverwoods was broken by a three year service in the R.C.A.F during the Second World War. Subsequent to retirement, George and Florence resided at Wanasing Beach on Traverse Bay, Lake Winnipeg. After constructing a new home on their previous cottage site, George decided to enter the local municipal administration as an elected Councilor. He served two respected terms in this capacity. After Florence's passing, George relocated to a condominium residence in St. Vital where he resided until 2008 when health circumstances required that he enter a care home. George had a lifetime affiliation with the Masons in Winnipeg. He achieved Life Member status in 1985 as a Master Mason in the Sturgeon Creek Lodge. He subsequently was given the 50 year award for membership in 2005. He was also a Noble of the Mystic Shrine at the Khartum Temple where he also received a 50 year membership award. George latterly developed a lasting and devoted friendship with Thelma Ross. Thelma will miss George and his companionship. As the year passed in his residence, at Oakview Place, he expressed thanks and appreciation on many occasions for being so well taken care of by the caring staff. He credited their care for his longevity and security. The family also expressed gratitude to the Oakview staff. Service will be held Monday, November 19, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home.
