RICHARD NORMAN SKADSHEIM It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Skadsheim on November 15, 2012 at Betel Home in Gimli with family by his side. Left to cherish his memory, wife Barbara of 50 years, daughters, Brenda McClure (Lyall), Linda Miyai (Tim), Cheryl Campbell (Stewart), Wendy Boychuk (Ringo), 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and sisters Elaine Peterson, and Helen Picard. Richard was predeceased by his parents Martin and Margaret Skadsheim, brother Allan, sisters, Alice, Shirley and Irene. Richard was born in Winnipeg, MB on March 24, 1940. After retiring from the City of Winnipeg, he moved to Gimli, MB. Richard's family meant everything to him. He enjoyed nothing more than being with all his grand-children and great-grandchildren. He had a nickname for all of them. We will all miss his stories he shared and his sense of humour. We love you Gunka and we will forever have the best memories to share about you. The family would like to thank all the homecare workers, staff at Betel Home, Dr. Zabib, Dr. Weisenthal and a very special thank-you to Connie Magnusson for all their care. If you wish to do so, donations can be made to the Parkinson's Society, 302-171 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1M4. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November, 21, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Richard loved the color purple, so we are inviting guests to wear purple if they wish to do so in his memory. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca

  • Dear dad we all miss you but know that you lived a fun life. I heard so many more stories about you yesterday. Wow you were one of a kind I really wish we could have stayed there all day reminiscing about you the last few years haven't been easy for you but even through your dementia you still managed to make us laugh. I know how much you had to deal with throughout your parkinsons I wanted to say you are amazingly strong and mom thank you for caring for dad at home as long as you could. • I will always remember Uncle Richard fondly as a loving father to his 4 girls, loving husband to my Auntie Barbara, a wonderful grandfather and uncle. He cherished all of his family. He always had hugs to give and stories to tell, the ones I will remember the most are about his beloved pet turtle. He could always make me laugh with stories about that turtle. I will always remember him saying to me come here Susie I have a story to tell you..... - Posted by: Susan (Susie) Pazdor (Niece) on: Nov 17, 2012

  • A piece of my Heart broke the day I talked to Auntie Barbara and she told me that Uncle Richard wasn't doing well and that things did not look good and it was a matter of time. I remember when we were younger my sister Susan and I for many years spent alot of time with our cousins and Auntie Barbara and of course the Crazy antics of Uncle Richard (Pinky) on Pacific Avenue in Wpg, it was always so fun to go there, he always made you laugh and loved to Hug and Kiss you up, he used to always say " Debbie come here, I have a secret!!!"... and give me a big hug and kiss..lol he loved kids. I always thought someone is going to have " A GREAT " Grandpa when they come along...and they did !! I cannot come up with just one Special memory because there are so many, but this one I always still think of... is when he used to sing Tony Orlando and Dawn's song " Knock 3 times " and when it came to the part knock 3 times he used to get up and start stomping on the floor, that the whole house shook lol, he would do it over and over, it was Hilarious!!! other times Uncle Richard and Bob (Cushnie) we used to call him Crazy Bob, with love as he was also Very Funny would come over for a visit and my dad (John) would be having a nap after work, Well...... the two of them would go in the bedroom and try and wake him up, Well... all you could hear for 10 minutes was Uncle Richard "roaring" like a lion, roaring and roaring we were laughing so hard, Uncle Richard would come out and say Nope!! can't wake him up!! hoarser than can be!!! lol. My dad John, was up 5 minutes later, saying that they were Crazy!! you know whats!!lol. We were all laughing but we were all waiting because we thought for sure we would see two grown men running for their lives...with my dad close behind them..lol. We have Lots of memories and will always carry them with us forever. We would like to extend Our Sincerest of Condolences and Love to Auntie Barbara and my cousins, Brenda, Linda, Cheryl and Wendy and to your families. Rest in Peace Uncle Richard, we will Miss You, You were ONE OF THE BEST!!!
