MARIA LEONILDE SOARES Maria Leonilde Soares passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at St. Boniface Hospital on November 17, 2012 at the age of 71. Maria Leonilde Soares was predeceased by her parents, José and Conceiçao Medeiros. Maria Leonilde Soares is survived by her loving husband Joao, of 48 years. They were married in Sao Miguel, Açores on April 23, 1964. Maria Leonilde is lovingly remembered by her husband Joao, daughters, Connie and son-in-law Gerald, Maria (Arthur), Carolina (Phillip), Susie (Jason), and grandchildren, Calum, Nora, Luke and Erik, she is also survived by her three sisters, two brothers and her mother-in-law. Maria Leonilde was born in Sao Miguel, Açores, Portugal on December 5, 1940. Maria Leonilde enjoyed spending time with her family, she loved watching and playing with her grandchildren, she was an avid gardener and cook, who enjoyed the simple pleasures of preparing meals fresh from her garden. She lived her life, appreciating the simple things and bestowed on her children the value of hard work, honesty and respect for self and others. She believed in living in harmony and in peace with her fellow man. The family would like to thank the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit 8th floor for all their care and compassion. Prayers will be said at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin Street, on Wednesday, November 21 at 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Thursday, November 22 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Andre Lico officiating. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue West. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Canadian Red Cross Society or to the Children's Hospital. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

Sending hugs to the Soares family and their families. We are so sorry for your loss. Your Mom/wife was a very loving woman. She made us feel at home when we had dinner at her home after Carolina and Phil's wedding. We loved the fresh produce she would send us from her garden each summer. Maria was so kind to knit me a beautiful shoulder shawl to wear on cold nights, she did this for me even though she was fighting a tough battle. She loved my brother as if he was her child, and Phil loved her back just as much. I know my brother was very blessed to have known Maria as we are blessed also.
