Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVJEKOSLAV CVAR 1932 - 2012 Peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2012, Vjekoslav Cvar passed away at the Concordia Hospital, at the age of 80 years, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Branka Cvar. His main focus on life was raising his family and doing the best for them. He will be always be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 57 years, Branka as well as their sons, Slavko, Mladen (Kara), Zlatan (Tracey), daughter Irenka (Jaison), and grandchildren Haley, Nathan and Olivia. He is also survived by his sister Mimica. Vjekoslav was born July 6, 1932 to Alojzije and Franjica Cvar in the City of Prezid, Croatia where he spent his early years. He came to Canada in 1961 to give his family the ability to have a prosperous and better life. Being new immigrants and needing to survive, he took on employment in an ice house, picking vegetables, labour jobs, whatever it took, because he knew that hard work will make you successful. He was fortunate to have joined C.P. Railway where he retired in 1997 as an Inspector Carman after 32 years of service. Vjekoslav enjoyed people and life and was always alive. No matter how he was feeling, he always portrayed confidence, he always made the people he met feel welcome and respected. He really enjoyed his travel to Hawaii with Branka. Together they enjoyed playing cards with friends, spending time with family and friends at their Gimli cottage where he would spend the whole day fishing from their waterfront property. Sincere thanks to the staff at Concordia and St. Boniface Hospitals, with a special thank you to Kelly Orteza for the special care in helping our family maintain Vjekoslav's last days in the hospital to be full of life and happiness. Viewing will take place at 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service for Vjekoslav to be held at 12:00 p.m., on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the St. Nicholas Tavelich Church, 2688 Main St., Winnipeg, MB. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca

We were neighbours for 17 years and we were very lucky to have had such a wonderful man next door. He often offered his help if needed and we are fortunate to have had the pleasure of knowing him. Our condolences to his family. - Posted by: Marvin and Nancy Hays (acquaintance) on: Nov 29, 2012

I met Slavko 22 years ago. His son Mladen is married to my sister Kara. We are a very close family and have had many functions together. I have spent countless hours listening to Slavko's stories going back to the old country till now. He was truly an amazing friendly giant. I enjoyed listening to him speak the many different languages he knew. He had a memory like an elephant. Slavko really enjoyed fishing at the cottage in Gimli. He was a great provider and always put his family first. Two fingers of brandy for my great friend. I will miss you! - Posted by: Kurtis Rudney (My sisters father in law ) on: Nov 22, 2012

I have many great memories of Mr. Cvar. I loved going to the cottage and seeing how much he would build each year. My favourite feature was his seashell designed bar. He was a wonderful man, and will be missed greatly. Sending lots of big hugs to all the family. - Posted by: Delayna Chester (Lefko) (Childhood friend of his daughter's/neighbour) on: Nov 22, 2012
