EILEEN GRACE RICHARD Eileen's family announces with great sadness her passing on November 16, 2012 at the Grace Hospital. Eileen was born on April 24, 1972 in Winnipeg. Left to mourn are husband Kevin Richard, their daughters Danielle and Jessica, parents Regina and Harold Dueck, in-laws Jean and Louis Richard of Thunder Bay, grandfather Otto Uckermann of Steinbach, sister Laura (Glen) Todd, niece Raina and nephew Carson of Delta, BC. Predeceasing her was her grandmother Vera Uckermann in 1996. There are also many aunts, uncles and cousins that were part of the larger family. Eileen grew up in Winnipeg and attended school at Linwood and Sansome as well as Westwood Collegiate. She went on to earn her Health Care Aide Certificate as well as her Educational Assistant Diploma. A quick wit, sense of humour and strong sense of justice and fighting for the "underdog" were part of her nature. In her late teens Eileen began her health struggles and because of this many of her hopes and dreams were shattered. Kevin and Eileen married on February 9, 1991. This marriage gave them two daughters, Danielle in 1996 and Jessica in 2000. The family would like to thank the ER team and chaplain at the Grace Hospital for their efforts and compassion. Eileen will be greatly missed by her friends and family. Should friends wish to make a donation, a gift to the Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba at Suite 100 4 Fort St. Winnipeg, MB R3C 1C4 or other charity of your choosing would be appreciated. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • I was so saddened today to hear of Eileen's passing. Although it is much after the fact, finding this out today brings a flood of memories, that we shared as a group, and I feel her loss much. I pray for peace to continually be upon her parents Regina and Harold, Kevin and her two daughters Danielle and Jessica. Although we never met, my hope for you is only pleasant memories, times when Eileen was strong, and the smile that she carried throughout her days, even when it was not visible for all to see. For those at the Mood Disorder Group, I too feel your loss, as we formed as much a family as we could be to her, such a motley group, and yet, we all were there for each other at our worst. Eileen, you were a beautiful spirit, and I pray that you have now found joy and true peace that you are on the other side. May there one day be much joy and rejoicing when you gather again with all those who loved you so deeply, and cared for you sincerely! I remember the poem you shared with all of us, as I share it again here: "I stand like a tree, Strong and alone. Casting shadows in the field below. I’ve lived through storms that have made men cower, Made them hide. I stood alone. Alone through time. Every day the same. Fed by the rain. No one can see me grow. My branches reach longer, When the summer’s heat has vanished. It is hard to notice, But I can now stretch my branchesJust a little wider, Just a little taller Even if I am alone, It does not mean that I can’t have birds nest Safely in my branches, Provide shade for young lovers or Carry a swing for a child. I am capable of all thisEven if I am unseen by another’s eyes. So I stand, Having weathered endless seasons, The wind that blows freezes me in time, until the warmth of the sun emerges again. I will always be that tree. My roots planted firmly in the earth. Even if I am not noticed, I am here, And I am strong."
