RICHARD WILLIAM POLLARD Richard (Dick) passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 18, 2012, just five days short of his 97th birthday. Dad was born to the late Richard (Roy) and Mabel Christie Pollard on November 23, 1915 and grew up in the Maple Creek area of Saskatchewan. It was there, he developed a life long love of the prairies, the natural beauty of the Cypress Hills and cattle ranching. Working various jobs he saved enough money to take an aero-mechanics course in Los Angeles. In 1939 his knowledge took him to Montreal where he was employed in aircraft manufacturing for the Second World War effort. In 1942 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and served in Europe. After the war he returned to the prairies with his wife and two daughters, and bought a small ranch near Eastend, SK. In 1960 he moved his family to Eriksdale, MB, and in 1966 Dad moved to Winnipeg. He attended Red River College and became an operating engineer, working at various power plants in Winnipeg. He remained in Winnipeg until his passing, sharing a home with his grandson Richard. Dad will be remembered with love, and many smiles for his quick wit, an abiding love of family and a knack for fixing things, whether a broken toy or a broken heart. He will be missed by daughter Rosalind (Robert) McIntosh and their children Kevin, Sandra, Bonnie and Lindsay. Daughter Wendy (Craig) Holden, grandchildren Richard, Pamela and Eleanor Brown, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife Dorothy in 1987, stepsons Peter and Gilbert, sisters Ruth and Bertha, parents Roy and Mabel. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place with a private family memorial to be held in the spring. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff of E M Crowe Hospital for their kindness and compassion. MACKENZIE FUNERAL CHAPEL STONEWALL (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net
