MARGARET LYDIA SPRING (nee KENNEMORE) April 28, 1926 - November 25, 2012 It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Lydia Spring announce her peaceful passing on November 25, 2012, at Middlechurch Home, with her two sons at her side. Margaret was predeceased by husband Walter (Bud), of 49 years and parents George and Henrietta Kennemore and great-granddaughter Mia. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Bill (Florence) and Scott (Doreen), and grandchildren, Richard, Jason (Julie), Colin, Matthew and Kari-Anne. In England, Ian and Margaret Martin, Gordon and Gill Barclay and their families. In Scotland, John, Lily and Betty Henderson, and Nancy Mair, and their families. In Calgary, Victoria Salmon, Bill Burn in Edmonton, Tommy Burn in White Rock, David Burn in Ottawa, and their families. Mom was born and raised on Linden Avenue in East Kildonan and, after marrying Dad in 1952, moved to West Kildonan in the home where she and Dad were to spend all their married years together. Mom attended schools in East Kildonan, Kelvin High School, and finally at United College where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1947. Subsequent to that, she completed her Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba in 1971. She taught at Centennial and Lord Selkirk School until the boys were born and resumed teaching in 1962 at Strathcona School where she stayed teaching until she retired in 1984. Always the caring individual, Mom said she wanted to teach in the inner city because she wanted to make a difference. Upon retiring, Mom and Dad did most things together including travelling, gardening, supporting their boys and their families, doing things with their old friends while establishing new friends on their travels. Mom was very involved with various functions of Kildonan United Church and considered the Church a second home. She was a very sociable person, easy to approach and make friends with, and would bleather away (her favourite term), with everybody. She had a great sense of humour and was a good sport which came in handy many times over the years with us boys in the family. The family expresses its sincere gratitude to the nursing and support staff at Middlechurch Home for their care and compassion given to Mom during her stay. It is truly appreciated. Interment is to be held at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, Saturday, December 1 at 1:00 p.m. (please meet at the funeral home). A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Kildonan United Church, 187 Kilbride Ave., West Kildonan, with Rev. Mark Satterly officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so wish, donations may be made to Kildonan United Church, Middlechurch Home, or to a charity of one's choice in memory of Margaret. Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 338-7111

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • We knew Mrs. Spring for only a few short months during the first half of 2012 while our mom lived across the hall from her at Middlechurch Home. Margaret was a lively lady with a smile on her face and a story to tell. She always had a comical line or wonderful compliment at the ready and we always enjoyed visiting with her when we came to see our mom. We were both saddened to hear of her passing. - Posted by: Darryl and Alexandra Pokrant (Friend) on: Jan 23, 2013

  • Bill and Scott, I was so very sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I had the pleasure of working with her at Strathcona School. She was a consistently happy lady, always willing to help others. We exchanged Christmas cards for many years after her retirement. May you cherish all the fond memories and remember her great love of life. With sympathy, Jocelyne Jaremowich - Posted by: Jocelyne Jaremowich (former co-worker/friend) on: Jan 17, 2013

  • Our sympathy to you and your families Bill and Scott. Your Mom and Dad were more than good neighbours to our family they were best friends.
