Date of Passing: Nov 26, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLIVER GEORGE KLEVEN Unexpectedly on Monday, November 26, 2012, Oliver Kleven, age 93, passed peacefully away with family at his side. Oliver was predeceased by his much loved parents, Sivert and Clara Kleven, siblings John, Evelyn, Lawrence and Norma, brothers-in-law Kyle, Buster, Ross, Joe and Stuart, sisters-in-law Doris and Margaret, and his grandson Beau. Oliver is survived by Mavis, his beloved wife of 62 years. He will be deeply missed by his children Mavine (Adrian), Comrie (Liz), Shannon (Wally), Linell (Joe) and Lauris, and by his grandchildren Cory (Jennifer), Cam (Sarah), Stephan, Calen, Jonell (Michael), Jenna, Tricia, Alexa, Haley, Jade and Joey, great-grandsons Sydney and Anthony, daughters-in-law Susan and Margaret, son-in-law Allan, sisters-in-law Hesel, Maiga and Anne as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Oliver was born in Sprague, Manitoba on July 9, 1919 where he was raised, educated and resided until enlisting in the war effort. Prior to enlisting Oliver had begun a promising musical career. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing with Andy de Jarlis' Red River Mates, Art McEwing and many other bands. He also regularly performed on a Saturday evening radio show and enjoyed popularity with a wide fan base. Oliver joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp on May 18, 1941 and served in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean area and Continental Europe until his discharge on December 14, 1946. He was attached to P.P.C.L.I. (Sicily 1943, Europe 1945) and was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Norwood Branch #43. Following his discharge he returned to Manitoba and briefly worked for the railroad before joining Winnipeg Electric (later Winnipeg Hydro) where he worked as a journeyman welder until his retirement in January 1983. Part of his legacy at Winnipeg Hydro are the Christmas lights used to decorate downtown Winnipeg, which his children proudly enjoyed viewing each holiday season. His joy in his retirement was being with his grandchildren, each of whom was so special to him. We are celebrating Oliver's life Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Oliver's memory to the War Amps Canada. I am deeply sadden by the passing of Uncle Olive. He was always kind to me on my visits to Winnipeg. One of my fondest memories is when Oliver and I had to eat two suppers in one night when he drove me to see my Grandmas! He had that twinkle in his eye. Oliver, Lawrence and my Dad were true gentlemen and I miss them dearly. - Posted by: Pat Kleven (Niece) on: Nov 29, 2012

Mavis, I just had to tell you how you and your husband impacted my life. When my son was born in 1971, you came over and when you saw he was born with a cleft lip, you said do not cry anymore for that. My husband had the same and he made up for it by having the nicest personality ever. You were so right and I never ever forgot what you said to me. You probably see his beautiful smile on real-estate signs for Century 21. Randy does have the nicest personality. You were so right. My sincerest condolences to you and your family. Your husbaand was a wonderful man. - Posted by: Beverley Bettens (Mavis, you were my Avon lady on St. Catherine St. 41 years ago. ) on: Nov 29, 2012
