M. L'ABBE JEAN-LOUIS ROCAN L'abbé Jean-Louis ROCAN est décédé paisiblement le 2 décembre 2012 à l'archevêché de Saint-Boniface à l'âge de 77 ans. Jean-Louis, fils de feu Engelbert Rocan et de feu Augustine Legal, est né à La Broquerie, Manitoba, le 4 mars 1935. Outre le presbyterium de Saint-Boniface, il laisse dans le deuil ses frères et soeurs : Irène (Norbert) Toupin, Maurice (Eveline), Paul (Lise), Guy (Jeanne) Marie-Thérèse (Léo) Nadeau, Georgette (Fernand) Balcaen; un beau-frère Henri Audette et une belle-soeur Colombe; plusieurs neveux, nièces, cousins, cousines, et de nombreux amis. L'ont précédé dans la mort ses parents, ses frères et soeurs : Edmond, soeur Geneviève, s.g.m., Yvonne, Denise, Florence, Michel ; deux beaux-frères : Jacques Mireault et Aimé Vielfaure. Jean-Louis a fréquenté l'école de La Broquerie (1941-1948) et le Collège Saint-Boniface (1948-1954). Il continua des études en philosophie au Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface, Manitoba, (1954-1956) où il obtint un baccalauréat ès arts. Ensuite, il compléta des études au grand-séminaire de Saint-Boniface d'où il obtint un baccalauréat en théologie (1957-1961). En 1966, il suivit des cours de spécialisation au Centre de la formation à la psychologie pastorale, à Paris, France. Son Excellence Mgr Maurice Baudoux, Archevêque de Saint-Boniface, l'ordonna prêtre pour l'Archidiocèse de Saint-Boniface, le 18 juin 1961 en l'église Saint-Joachim de La Broquerie, Manitoba. Il est nommé directeur du Petit-séminaire de Saint-Boniface, tout en étant vicaire dominical à la paroisse St. Joseph the Worker, (1961-1966). Après des études à Paris, France (1966-1967) il est nommé directeur de la Pastorale au Collège Saint-Boniface (1967-1975). Au cours de sa vocation sacerdotale, l'abbé Jean-Louis fut successivement Vicaire dominical à la paroisse Saint-Norbert (1967-1979), chargé des relations extérieures au Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface, Registraire et Vice-doyen (1970-1975). En 1978, il entreprit une carrière dans la communication à la Société Radio Canada (CKSB) qui dura au-delà de 25 ans, et durant laquelle il fut à la fois lecteur des nouvelles, journaliste, chef de pupitre et commentateur pour les célébrations religieuses télévisées (CBWFT). Il fut ensuite Vicaire dominical à la paroisse-cathédrale de Saint-Boniface (1980), Curé de la paroisse Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens (1988-2003). Il agit entre autre comme Professeur de français aux employés du gouvernement fédéral (1972-1975), Juge au Tribunal matrimonial régional de Régina (1985-1990), Aumônier d'Etat des Chevaliers de Colomb, Secrétaire du Conseil diocésain de pastorale, Membre du Collège des consulteurs. Depuis 2004, l'abbé Jean-Louis offrait de l'aide ministérielle à la paroisse-cathédrale de Saint-Boniface. Une veillée de prière pour l'abbé Jean-Louis Rocan aura lieu à la Cathédrale de Saint-Boniface le jeudi 6 décembre 2012 à 19 h 30. La messe des funérailles, précédée du visionnement à 10 h, sera présidée par Son Excellence Mgr Albert LeGatt, Archevêque de Saint-Boniface, le vendredi 7 décembre 2012 à 10 h 30. L'inhumation suivra dans le cimetière de la Cathédrale. FATHER JEAN-LOUIS ROCAN Father Jean-Louis ROCAN passed away peacefully on December 2, 2012, at the Archbishop's house. He was 77 years old. Jean-Louis, son of Engelbert Rocan and Augustine Legal, was born in La Broquerie, Manitoba, on March 4, 1935. Besides the St. Boniface presbyterium, he will be remembered by his brothers and sisters: Irene (Norbert) Toupin, Maurice (Eveline), Paul (Lise), Guy (Jeanne) Marie-Thérèse (Léo) Nadeau, Georgette (Fernand) Balcaen; a brother-in-law Henri Audette and a sister-in-law Colombe; several nephews, nieces, cousins, and by numerous friends. Besides his parents, Father Rocan was predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Edmond, Sr. Geneviève, Grey Nun, Yvonne, Denise, Florence, Michel; two brothers-in-law: Jacques Mireault and Aimé Vielfaure. Jean-Louis attended school in La Broquerie, Manitoba (1941 to 1948) and the St. Boniface College, Manitoba (1948 to 1954). He pursued his Philosophy at the College universitaire de Saint-Boniface, Manitoba (1954 to 1956) where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts. He then completed his Theology at the St. Boniface Major Seminary (1957 to 1961). In 1966, he went to Paris, France for Specialized Studies at the Formation Centre for Pastoral Psychology. His Excellency, Most Reverend Maurice Baudoux, Archbishop of St. Boniface, ordained him to the priesthood in his home parish of St. Joachim in La Broquerie, Manitoba, for the Archdiocese of St. Boniface, on June 18, 1961. Then he was named Director of the Boniface Minor Seminary while serving St. Joseph the Worker Parish as Dominical Vicar (1961 to 1966). Following his studies in Paris, France (1966 to 1967), he was named Pastoral Director at the St. Boniface Collège (1967 to 1975). Throughout his sacerdotal vocation, Father Jean-Louis became successively Dominical Vicar at St. Norbert parish (1967 to 1979), in charge of the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface's public relations, Registrar and Vice-Dean (1970 to 1975). In 1978 he started a career in communication at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (French Radio CKSB) that lasted for over 25 years, during which he occupied several positions such as News Reader, Journalist, News Director, and as Commentator for the televised religious celebrations (CBWFT). He then became dominical Vicar at the St. Boniface Cathedral parish (1980), Pastor at the Saint-Martyrs-Canadiens parish (1988 to 2003). Furthermore, he also taught French to the Federal Government employees (1972 to 1975), was Judge on the Regional Marriage Tribunal in Regina (1985 to 1990), State Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, Secretary of the St. Boniface Diocesan Pastoral Council and member of the College of Consultors. Since 2004, Father Jean-Louis made himself available for ministerial help at the St. Boniface Cathedral parish. A Prayer Vigil for Father Jean-Louis Rocan will be held at the St. Boniface Cathedral on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass, preceded by viewing at 10:00 a.m., will be presided by His Excellency Most Reverend Albert LeGatt, D.D., Archbishop of St. Boniface, on Friday, December 7, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Boniface Cathedral.
