Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY HELEN STACEY Peacefully, with her three sons at her side, Mary Helen Stacey passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012, aged 86. Predeceased by her husband, Arthur John Stacey in 1996, she is survived by her sons Arthur (Sheila), Campbell (Joanna) and James (Rocio), and grandchildren Jenna, Michelle, Matthew, Erik, Hayley, Sarah, Anna and twins Helen and Artemis. Helen was born in Perth, Ontario, a member of the Meighen family known to Canadian business and politics. In 1947 she was a member of only the second class of physiotherapists, then a new medical profession, to graduate from McGill University. A portion of her training was spent at Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg. On returning to Montreal she established the physiotherapy department at the Lachine General Hospital and developed a separate private physiotherapy practice which she carried on throughout that city. In 1958 she married Art and turned her attention to raising her three sons, first in Montreal and from 1966, in Winnipeg. Outside the home, Helen was active as a volunteer at the Grace General Hospital, working in a number of hospital departments, and for many years managed the patients' hair salon and beauty shop. She was a long-time member of Silver Heights United Church and subsequently Westwood Presbyterian Church. Helen was generous by nature and quietly supported a large number of charitable causes with regular donations. Particularly special to her were the several children overseas whom she supported for many years through Foster Parents Plan. Helen and her husband Art loved to travel and did so widely throughout North America, Europe and the Pacific. In addition to her sons and their families, Helen is survived by her many friends gained over a lifetime of concern and care for others. The family wishes to thank the staff at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence I for their attention and compassion over the last few years. Thanks also to the staff of 3 South at the Grace Hospital who cared for Helen in her final days. A memorial service will be held at Westwood Presbyterian Church, Westwood Drive and Browning Blvd. on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or Westwood Presbyterian Church. Helen was always a generous, warm and loving person. She took on the name of Grandma Stacey to my children from birth and they always referred to her that way. She was really the only Grandma they really had. She was always there for us. She will always be remembered in our hearts. Rest easy now. - Posted by: Bev Jurens and family (friend and adoptive grandma to my children) on: Dec 06, 2012
