Condolences & Memories (28 entries)

  • It has been a while since I posted a note for Shane as at the time, I did not realize that I knew him not just from working at Canadian Freightways but that his Dad Ron stood up with Ray Starr as what we called BOOKENDS at my marriage on Jul 22/89. I so remember Ron saying their boys, Shane and Jarett were staying at home as they were teenagers and weren't into spending the evening with the mom and dad and aunt and uncle and little cousins. Ron and Shirley are truly wonderful people and never really saw much from them after that. I cannot Imagine how their lives changed that day as he may have been out of province working but he was their baby, no matter where he was and no matter how old he had. When Shane came to work for Canadian Freightways, I found him to be a truly personable young man with such good manners and a great sense of humor and always had time to stop and talk to me, either sitting outside or inside by my desk. He just loved to show off his latest tattoos and had quite the collection. Saw him about 3-4 year after that in the Inkster area by a restaurant and got his usual big Bear Hug and it was as if we had not seen each other for 1 day. I pray God has blessed him as he made that horrific trip when he was called home and I think so much of him whenever I hear of accidents with tractors and trailers and ABSOLUTELY DESPISE THE SHOWS THEY PUT ON THE AIR AND REFUSE TO WATCH THEM AS IT STILL CUTS TOO CLOSE TO HOME FOR THAT. Shane, take care and no sense in saying be good, as you will just BE SHANE AND THAT IS AWESOME. Love you and miss you a lot kiddo. Still so hard to believe you are gone and it is going to be one whole year in about 6 weeks. It has seemed like an eternity since you were with us. Catch you later TAT=MAN..... xoxo Dianne - Posted by: Dianne Mandryk Spry (Former co-worker at CFWL) on: Oct 24, 2013

  • Although it has been many many years since I've seen Shane or his family, it's like yesterday we played in the streets on Manford Close. I remember Shane as a very gentle person with a kind heart, especially after his little brother was born, he always looked out for Jarrett. Ron, Shirley and family, I'm sorry I did not make the services as I've only just heard the sad news, please accept my family's condolences during this difficult time. Derek Stewner "You have noticed that everything an Indian does is in a circle, and that is because the Power of the World always works in circles, and everything tries to be round..... The Sky is round, and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The wind, in its greatest power, whirls. Birds make their nest in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours.... Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing, and always come back again to where they were. The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves." • I was shocked and terribly saddened when I saw the notice in today's paper. I worked with Shane for the time he was at Canadian Freightways in Winnipeg, and thoroughly enjoyed dealing with him. He was a good worker and always in a jovial mood and so pleasant to just chat with. Saw him a few years ago - as I had not seen him in a few years and it was so nice to see him and catch up. Such a loss for such a nice kid to be called HOME at such an early age. Sincere sympathies to his whole family. - Posted by: Dianne Mandryk Spry (Co-worker from Canadian Freightways) on: Dec 06, 2012
