Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMERNA MARGARET THOMSON It is with heavy hearts that the family of Merna Thomson announce her sudden passing on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Mom is survived by her daughters Debby (Bob) Peters, Laurie Thomson, Susan (Brad) Murphy, Beth (Dan) Hunter, Connie (John) van Dixhoorn, her son Rob (Kathy) Thomson, her grandchildren Deanne (Glenn) Odland, Nikki (Heino) Gastman, Tara (Dustin) Malcolm, Brenden O'Rourke, Reid Cardiff, Jen and Rob van Dixhoorn, and Max and Lukes Thomson and her seven great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Bob, her parents Leah and Frederick McDonald, and her siblings Freddie, Connie, Dorothy, Jock, Alice and Donnie. She is survived by her loving brother Ed (Eve) McDonald, sister-in-law Dorothy McDonald as well as Bob's family and her nieces and nephews. Mom was born on October 31, 1929, in Winnipeg and spent her childhood in St. Vital. Mom met our father in Rivers, Manitoba. They were married on August 17, 1950. Mom was a proud military wife and she fostered many friendships far and wide during Dad's service. She maintained these friendships for the rest of her life. How do we begin to summarize the life of this amazing woman? Mom was the centre of our family as she valued her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren over everything else. We came first always in her life. Her passing has left a void that nothing will be able to fill. We will cherish her memory and hold her close for the rest of our lives. A service to celebrate Mom's life will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB. At Mom's request cremation has taken place. She will be laid to rest with Dad. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you pay it forward to the charity of your choice. We love you forever, Mom. Fondly remembering Aunt Merna, my mother's last remaining sister. I remember Merna's great wit and high intelligence. Never heard her say a disparaging word about anyone. She seemed to have sly grin on her face and in a lot of ways reminded me of a person facing life with hope and love. She will be missed.
