Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORA DOREEN SMITH (nee BUSBY) August 29, 1921 December 10, 2012 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lora Smith announce her passing on Monday, December 10 at the Charleswood Care Centre. Lora is survived by son Dave (Carolin), grandson Neal (Krista), sisters Ollie Herbert and Ieleen Armbruster, brothers Miller (Betty) and John (Kay) Busby, and sister-in-law Ilene. She was predeceased by her loving husband Howard Roscoe Smith on July 21, 2001 and her siblings Gordon, Ross, Annie, Jean and Mary. Lora was born on August 29, 1921 in Grenfell, Saskatchewan. She moved to Winnipeg in 1942 where she met and married Howard on February 25, 1944. She retired after 25 years with Commercial Union in 1983 as head casualty underwriter. After a lengthy illness Howard moved into the Deer Lodge Centre in 1991, where she faithfully visited him five times a week for 10 years. As Lora reflected on her life, she wrote: I have much for which to be grateful. God blessed me with loving, caring parents, brothers and sisters I am proud of, and an immediate family who love and need me. Her personal creed, which had been a source of inspiration for her was the prayer of serenity God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference . Funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 17. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lora's name to a charity of your choice. Dave, Carolin and Family; I'm so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I only met her a few times, but you could just tell what a treasure she was. I remember when my mother was in at Deer Lodge and your Mom took the time to go and visit her while she was visiting your Dad. My deepest Sympathy to David and family in the loss of his Mother Lora. She was a beautiful person. I worked as her Supervisor at Commercial Union in the 60s and early 70s in the Paris Building and then at the location on Notre Dame. She was a wonderful person and eveyone in the office spoke so highly of her. Often on my return visits to Winnipeg Lora and Doreen Bowley would meet up with me for coffee at the "Forks".
