ALBERT T. BURGESS It is with great sadness, we announce that Albert Tilden Burgess passed away peacefully on December 14, 2012, at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 82. Albert was predeceased by his wife, Lila and his parents, Hazel and Elsie Burgess. Albert will lovingly be remembered by his four children Caroline (Glenn), Bob (Debbie), Garry (Michelle) and Kathy (John). His grandchildren Heather, Dianna, Stephen, Shawna, Julia (Justin), Jessica, Victoria, Joni (Jeffrey) and Bernie. His great-grandchildren Isabella, Lucas, Clover, Alexandra, Kaylee and Hannah. He is also survived by two close brothers; Charlie and Ernie in British Columbia, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends. Albert was born November 27, 1930, and grew up on a farm near Lauder in South West Manitoba. He was a creative and inquisitive child, always fixing things for friends and family and even ensuring his house had electricity. In 1947, his family moved to Winnipeg and a few years later he married Lila Grieve from Lauder his soul mate of 59 and a half years. He worked for 41 years at Bristol Aerospace, retiring at the age of 61 as the Manager of Material Provisioning Inventory Control. In his retired years, he enjoyed his Bristol Breakfasts every two weeks as this allowed him to cherish his many friendships that he had formed throughout his career. He will always be remembered as a friendly, honest man who understood life and nature in the purest form. He took upon his shoulders the monumental task of caring for his disabled wife for more than 45 years. He dedicated his life to helping others. We will miss him dearly. Thank you to all the staff of Grace Cancer Care, the Palliative Care team, the Homecare team, and the staff at Riverview for their support and care. A special thank you to Les, (his neighbour) for all the special things he did for him. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the CancerCare Foundation or the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Albert was not only my first boss when I joined Bristol in 1981, but also one of the best I ever had. He seemed to know just about everything there was to know about Material Provisioning, and those of us who worked with him during those days before computers, will remember how his desk always seemed to be a foot deep in paper. Surprisingly, when you asked him for a particular document or piece of information, he would reach into the pile and produce what you were looking for. Having purchased my first home and losing my own father shortly before joining Bristol, Albert became my go-to guy for home renovation questions. Whatever project I was planning, chances were good that Albert had done it already – at least once. Even after he retired I would watch when driving home from work to see if he was in the yard or the garage door was open, so I could stop in for a chat (and of course, some free advice). He never seemed to be too busy to lend a helping hand, and in some cases, a unique tool or piece of equipment. Another thing that impressed me about Albert was his energy and determination, from building his oversize garge to trenching the foundation of his home by hand. But, what really impressed me the most about Albert was his dedication to his wife, and that no matter what challenges life brought him, he always seemed to be in such good humor and high spirits. He was a terrific co-worker and friend, and I know he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. - Posted by: Russ Duffy (Friend (worked together at Bristol for many years)) on: Dec 19, 2012

  • I worked for Albert for 25 years at Bristol and he was a wonderful boss. My wife Julia and I and our 3 children visited Albert and Lila many times in their home. They were a wonderful couple. About one year ago I talked to Albert about Jesus and I asked him if he would like to accept Jesus as his personal Saviour so that he could know for sure that he would go to Heaven when he would die, and he said yes. He then prayed a prayer to ask Jesus to save him and he asked Jesus to forgive him of his sins, Amen. Now we know for sure that Albert is in Heaven. I talked to Albert on the phone about a week ago and he was doing quite poorly at that time and he told me that he did not expect to make it much longer. He said the Dr told him that there was no more they could do for him. I told him that he would then soon be with Jesus in Heaven and he agreed that would then be wonderful. So right now Albert is in Heaven with his wife Lila and they are walking together on streets of pure gold. Then God tells us that in Heaven there will be no sorrow, no pain, no death, and no tears. I will see Albert again in Heaven someday. How about you?, Will you see him again also? - Posted by: Peter Neufeld (Friend, we worked together at Bristol for 25 years.) on: Dec 19, 2012

  • I met Albert when I was caring for Lila as a Home Care Worker. A dedicated man. Whose life was taking care of Lila. It truly was a joy to meet this couple. I am certain the family will miss him dearly. - Posted by: Cathy (Home Care Worker) on: Dec 18, 2012

  • our sincere condolences to the Burgess family on the passing of your father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Albert and I had many things in common (both our wives had MS). When my wife came home from hospital in May she was totally wheelchair bound and I became her primary caregiver. Albert was always available to offer advice and help. We are grateful for his gift of the wheelchair ramp for our van. May his memory be eternal. Rest in peace dear neighbor. - Posted by: Lawrence & Sylvia Luba (Eldridge Avenue Neighbor (across the road)) on: Dec 18, 2012

  • Our Sincere Condolences to the Burgess Family on the loss of their Father, Father-in-law & Grandpa. I remember meeting Arthur on a couple of occasions & after reading the Obituary, I certainly understand on how he was a friendly & impressionable person. May you find comfort that he is with his Lila now & at Peace. Warm Hugs, Love Laura, Bob Calder & family. - Posted by: Laura & Bob Calder (friends) on: Dec 18, 2012
