VALENTINE (VAL) JOYAL It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our dad, daddyeeoo, Papa, Grandpa on December 14, 2012, at the age of 84. His memory will be cherished by his children Glenn (Joanne), Nancy (Doug) Rainboth and Lori (Allen Senchuk), grandchildren Jenelle (Matt), Brett, Sophie and Emma. He will also be missed by his brother Dave (Nicole), and sisters Lorraine Joyal, Eleanor Mulvey, Mary (Bill) Gulka, nieces, nephews and many friends. Dad was predeceased by his wife and love of his life Agnes in 1990. Dad dedicated his life to his family and he loved nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dad always encouraged us and made us feel like we could accomplish anything. He always told us how proud of us he was and made us feel very special and much loved. Dad started his career as a radio announcer in Flin Flon, Manitoba. Radio then brought him to Moncton, New Brunswick. Eventually it was the lure of television that brought him back to Winnipeg where in the 1950s he began his long career with the CBC. He brought his passion for his job to various areas of production and direction. He always said it was important to do what you love and how lucky he was to have had a career he enjoyed right until his last day of work. He had many great friends and memories from his days with the CBC. Dad was an active parishioner of Saint Bernadette Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and proud to say he held the title of Grand Knight twice. The respect and friendship of his brother knights was very important to him. He enjoyed time spent with his friends of St Francis Mission Circle. Dad enjoyed his daily swim and visit with his friends at Bonivital Pool. Dad also had a great love for boxing, baseball, jazz music (he played the trumpet) and in the last few years enjoyed spending time on the beaches of Florida. Dad, always the entertainer, wore many hats; Professor Magic, Dumbo the Clown and Santa Claus. Whatever his role, it was performed in pursuit of bringing joy to children and adults alike. Needless to say, his social schedule was full as he loved nothing more than to make people laugh. Dad will be remembered for his greatest talent; making people smile. He always had a joke or compliment that would brighten someone's day. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Rd. Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff on 6GH at the Health Sciences Centre for the kindness they showed caring for our dad. Condolences & Memories (20 entries)

  • Val was a valued school chum in St. Boniface, Manitoba. We often walked home from school together because our homes were only a few blocks apart. I remember being impressed with his devotion to his family and especially to his grandfather. We both ended up working for the CBC: Val in Winnipeg and I in Edmonton and Montreal. We last met in June of 2012 in Winnipeg: my wife and I were there for a reunion of Misericordia Hospital nurses. Another such reunion is planned for this June and I was looking forward to seeing Val again. - Posted by: Patrick McDougall, Ottawa (chum at Provencher School, St. Boniface ) on: Apr 11, 2014
