STEVE BILYK 1936 - 2012 It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather after a brief, courageous battle with lung cancer. He leaves to mourn his wife of 54 years, Doreen and three daughters Debbie, Lynda (Rob) and Karen (Rick MacIntosh) and two grandchildren Amber (Corey) and Adam (Tracey) with great-grandchild on the way. Steve was born in Sandy Lake, Manitoba, the youngest of six children. Predeceased by his parents Peter and Petryna, brothers Nick, John and Mike and sister Margaret. He is also survived by sister Lena (Pete) and many nieces and nephews as well as friends and neighbours. Dad worked many jobs in his life from farming to mining to factory work. He came to Winnipeg in 1954, and after two years began a career with Sherwin Williams Paints. In August of 1958 he married Doreen and started his family. A hard worker and a good provider, Dad was always skilled with his hands and was always helpful to others. Dad could always be found in his garage fixing or repairing. The challenge of his work life, experiencing many company closures, Dad always found a way to provide for his family. After 44 years Dad retired in 1996 at the age of 60. The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at CancerCare Manitoba and the Health Sciences Centre (GD4). A celebration of his life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with a viewing to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, and funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the charity of your choice. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Forgive me if I have the wrong person, but a Mr. Steve Bilyk was the contractor who built my parent's house. This was in Garden City, back in 1964. I was just a little girl then, but I remember him as a strong and muscular young man, swinging a hammer, putting up the framing of the house. I wanted to write a tribute to the builder, as it is still a beautiful house. Thank you so much, Mr. Bilyk, for being a good tradesman, who took pride in doing a quality job, that has stood straight and true for 49 years! - Posted by: Judith Campbell (homeowner) on: Dec 18, 2012
