HENRY JACOB KROEKER
Born: Dec 28, 1943
Date of Passing: Dec 13, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRY JACOB KROEKER December 28, 1943 - December 13, 2012 Peacefully at home with Irene by his side, Henry passed away at age 68, after a very long courageous struggle with heart disease. Henry was predeceased by his father Peter Kroeker, mother Mary Kroeker, father-in-law Abram Krahn, sister-in-law Elfrieda (Krahn) Brownlee. Henry will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Irene (Krahn) Kroeker, children David and Deanna (Davis) Kroeker, Marilyn (Kroeker) and Chan Motlong, grandchildren Ethan and Justin Kroeker, Riah, CJ, and Joshua Motlong, sister Elsie (Kroeker) and Peter Janzen, brother Alvin and Mary (Unger) Kroeker, sister Elma (Kroeker) and Vern Neufeld, mother-in-law Nettie Krahn, in-laws Sue and Herman Hildebrand, Hilda and Albert Toews, Al Brownlee , Elsie and Jake Harms, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Henry was raised in Grunthal, Manitoba. He grew up on the farm and at age 18 graduated from high school. He played many sports including football, baseball, and hockey throughout his school years and beyond. Henry married his high school sweetheart Irene, at the age of 22. He then began a lifelong career with Great West Life, with the exception of a four year period of time when Henry and Irene bought a restaurant and gas station in Grunthal. Henry devoted countless hours to his children. He coached hockey, ringette, and soccer. He enjoyed many years of camping trips and was often found playing outside with the kids. Henry loved hockey, golfing, backyard BBQ's, travelling, the Falcon Lake cabin, winter vacations and watching sports. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, wife, family and friends. One of his latest pastimes was to watch or get play-by-play texts from his grandchildren's hockey games. Henry took great pride in singing with the Mens' and Occasional Choirs at the First Mennonite Church. He served on the Reh-Fit Centre and Autumn House Seniors Home Help Boards for many years. Henry believed that his wife was the main reason for the longevity of his life. He always loved and appreciated Irene's homemade meals, beautiful gardens, caring nature and their well kept home. In an effort to maintain his health, Henry spent the past 25 years walking at the Reh-Fit Centre, and believed that the Centre and all of the support they provided, also was a contributing factor for him living as long as he did. Henry was always very grateful for the medical help he received over the years. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. David Breckman, Dr. Randolph Guzman, Dr. Shelly Zieroth and the staff at the Heart Failure Clinic, Dr. Peter Connelly, Dr. Alan Downs, and the staff at the Pace Maker Clinic for their dedication and genuine care for Henry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Reh-Fit Centre, 1390 Taylor Avenue Winnipeg, R3M 3V8, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation Manitoba, 6 Donald Street Winnipeg, R3L 0K6. A Viewing will take place at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg, on December 19, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., with a short memorial service to take place at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Mark Von Kampen presiding. Open to all family and friends. A Celebration of Henry's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. December 20, 2012, at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg. Signed First Mennonite Church parking lots are available east, west and north of the church.

Henry was a good man. A simple statement but one with a lot of meaning for me. In the many years I worked with Henry I found him to be trust worthy, conscientious, dedicated to doing the best job he could at whatever was asked of him. However, it was always obvious how important his family and his church were to him. He always spoke lovingly and respectfully of his wife and his children. He spoke with pride about the things they did and how grateful he was to have them in his life. In all the years I worked with Henry I never heard him speak badly of anyone. When he left GWL due to his health issues I know I wasn't the only one who missed him, and the essence of honourableness he brought to our work environment. Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of Henry from the daily lives of those who loved him. - Posted by: Dawn Vokey (Co-worker at GWL) on: Dec 17, 2012
