SISTER MAY RODWAY (MARIE-JOSEPHINE) Fille de la Croix 1917 - 2012 With saddened hearts, we, Les Filles de la Croix, wish to announce the death of Sister May Rodway. She passed away on December 8, 2012 at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter Rodway and Alma Durand, her brother, Stan and sister-in-law Christina. Left to mourn her passing, are her four nieces Shirley (Walter Kubrak), Frances (Danny Rowland), Penny Kuny, Pat (Brian Stone) and their families as well as her adoptive sister, Evelyn. May attended school at Holy Cross Elementary, St. Mary's Academy and St. Adolphe. Upon completing her studies, she entered our congregation and pronounced her last vows in 1942. She entered the teaching profession, specializing in English and Home Economics and taught in St. Claude, St. Malo, St. Adolphe, Manitoba and in Laflèche, Saskatchewan. Sister May will be remembered for her many gifts. Her Home Economics classes displayed her knowledge of cooking, sewing, and decorating. In her English classes, her ability to compose, organize, recite and act proved a real asset. Her love for reading gave her a rich vocabulary and a wide culture. She was a great story-teller with a fine sense of humour. Artistic, creative and very generous, she played an important part in all extra-curricular activities. Her many poems reveal her love for her Sisters and her deep spirituality. During her retirement years, May wrote three books: Jeanne Elizabeth Bichier des Ages, 1773-1838 , André-Hubert Fournet - A Man for Then and Now and Foot Prints in Time, Story of the Rodway-Durand Families . The three books manifest her sense of belonging to her religious family and to her own family. The family and the Sisters wish to thank the staff of Foyer Valade for the loving care given to Sister May in the last years of her life. The funeral service will be celebrated in the chapel of Villa Aulneau, 601 Aulneau Street, on Wednesday, December 19 at 1:30 p.m. and the interment will take place in St. Adolphe, Thursday morning, December 20 at 10:30 a.m. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220.
