JOAO GONCALVES Joao passed away on December 17, 2012 at the Deer Lodge Centre, at the age of 76 years. Joao is survived by his loving wife Maria Augusta Goncalves, children Patricia, Luis, Maria, Eduardo, John (Jennifer), Margarida (Vince), Rui (Trish) and Helena (Dave) and special grandson Steven; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father Jose; mother Maria; sister Lucilia; brother Jose, nephew Marco, son-in-law Alfredo, grandson Keith and brother-in-law Manuel. He leaves to cherish his memory, his sisters Fernanda and Lurdes in Portugal, Maria Da Carmo, brother Manuel (Luisa), sister-in-law Laura in Cambridge, mother-in-law Maria Jose Moniz, sisters-in-law Susana (Avelino) Hortencia and Lorena (Rene), brother-in-law Jose (Fatima) and extended family. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, U.S.A. and Portugal. A special thanks to all the staff in Units 2 and 6 at the Deer Lodge Centre for the loving care they gave Papa . Prayers will be said on Friday, December 21 at 8:00 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. N. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 22 at 10:00 a.m. also in the Church followed by interment in Assumption Cemetery. Cropo Funeral Chapel, 204-586-8044

  • I am so sorry for your loss at this time, it is so hard on the family, my prayers go out to you and your family. I knew John for 4 years at Deer Lodge when Chuck was his roommate and he was so nice, but you dear Maria were a rock, everyday you were with him even though your health was at a dangerous level. I know John appreciated it and you in his quiet way. John is at peace, and in a happy place.   • our Deepest sympathy to all the family. we loved uncle John very much, we have lots of good memories of him, he was a fun loving man, love to sing. I remember when he come to visit my Mom, his sister we could hear him singing outside, i use to say!!!ho uncle John is here...always happy smiling. he loved and respected his older sister. he loved when me and my girls stopped at their home.
