ALBERT VAN LANDEGHEM
Date of Passing: Dec 20, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT VAN LANDEGHEM It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and husband, Albert Emile Van Landeghem aged 83 years on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at St. Joseph's residence. Albert was predeceased by his parents Achille and Jeanne, his sister Luciene, sister Noella (husband Blake Moreau), brother John Van Landeghem (wife Norma). He was predeceased by his eldest son Alan Van Landeghem, May 11, 2000. Mourning his loss is his wife of 59 years, Bernadine, daughter Brenda (husband Rick Bobychuk), sons Donald and wife Laurie, Wayne and wife Dinah, and 10 grandchildren. Dad was born and raised in St. Boniface where the family opened the original Jeanne's Bakery, then moved to the West End where he and his brother owned and operated the Winnipeg Institution for 50 plus years. Jeanne's Bakery was started by their father Achille who named the Bakery after his wife Jeanne. Dad loved being outdoors and tending to his yard in St. Andrew's, always keeping his lawn and yard picture perfect. Dad had many friends, including those at Grand Beach, and over the years, enjoying walking, many horseshoe tournaments and the peacefulness the lake brought to him. In later years our dad and mother began travelling, especially enjoying their trips to Victoria, visiting with family and friends. In the last number of years, our father's strong faith and conviction helped him over many hurdles including the unexpected death of his oldest son Alan. Also, his deep rooted faith again helped him deal with the frustrations and limitations of Alzheimer's. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at St. Joseph's Residence for their loving attention and love given to our father. We would also like to thank Rev. Msgr. McCloskey for his lifelong friendship, guidance and support. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 24 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, 3597 Main Street. Interment will take place at a later date. Albert's 10 grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. 204-586-8044

Our sincere condolences to Bernadine and Family. Our children have had Jeanne's bakery birthday cakes all their lives. Left Winnipeg in 1976 for Fort McMurray, retiring in 1987 in Calgary. Every year we load our back seat of the car with cakes for everyone having a birthday and the rest of the year are able to buy them here in our city. You are truly a wonderful family. God Bless you all. Jim and Elaine. - Posted by: Taylor. Jim and Elaine. (Friends) on: Mar 08, 2013

I happen to be thinking about Albert today, and wondered where he was in life. (I'm a nurse now and work in a personal care) I googled his name and found his obituary. To all of the family my sincere condolences. Albert was a great man to work for as was Alan. I still think of Alan frequently and wonder how Barbara and the kids are doing. I have very fond memories of both of them. Rest in peace Albert and Alan. God Bless you both. - Posted by: helen governo (former employee) on: Feb 20, 2013

Our sincere condolences to my family in Winnipeg. Having not lived there for so long it was always great to call and speak to Albert over the years. Taking Rebecca back and spending time at the "Ranch" with Albert and Bernadine meant so much to both of us. My favorite memory of my uncle Albert was when I was very young and he would take me to the bakery when he was collecting the money from the tills. I could eat whatever I wanted and man did I eat. We laughed many times over the years at how my mom would be upset with the two of us as I would eat no dinner. RIP my friend I will miss you so very much. - Posted by: Larry Graves (Nephew) on: Dec 24, 2012

Albert was like a father to me. He was there for me through thick and thin. I don't remember how many times he saw I was hungry and offered me half of his famous sandwhiches that Bernadine always made for him. Even if I wasn't hungry he would have offered me half of his sandwhich - especially his ham egg sandwiches - they were the best. I also remember not showing up to work one Saturday morning after having a very serious event occur the previous evening.... Albert always took me back, even though he could have let me go many times. He also took me in when for some crazy reason, I decided to ride my bike out to St.Andrews. I think I wanted to prove to him that I could do it. I guess I never thought about the ride back home. Albert was the ROCK at Jeanne's Bakery. Besides the sneaking of free food such as shaponicas, mocha squares, date squares, thimble cookies, long johns when we used to get them in..... The list goes on, Albert is what made me addicted to working there. He made me laugh, like no one else could. I am truly saddened that I could not be there this morning, but to all of the Vans, may you know that my heart bleeds deeply for your loss. Albert, may you rest in peace, I love you like a father and I am so sorry, I never thanked you or told you that in person. Nicky xoxo - Posted by: Monique Ditter (Former employee) on: Dec 24, 2012

Our condolences to Bernie and Family. Enjoyed beautiful summer memories playing horseshoes and crib. We also remember quite well that Albert knew it was Sunday morning and time to go to church when at the Paulicelli cottage next door out came the aroma of the spagetti sauce. Albert you will always be in our hearts. "The Paulicelli's" - Posted by: Paulicelli's (Beach Neighbors) on: Dec 23, 2012
