WALTER WACHNIAK
Born: Jun 28, 1929
Date of Passing: Dec 19, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER WACHNIAK On December 19, 2012 Walter passed away after a valiant battle with cancer at Seven Oaks Hospital, at the age 83 years. Walter is survived by his loving wife Lovey; daughter Victoria and husband Rick Preston; son Terry, daughter-in-law Jule Henderson; grandchildren Jared (Apryl), Audrey (Cody), Steve; great-grandchildren, Calvin, Bradyen and Mikenna. He also leaves to mourn his brothers Steve (Ollie), Peter (Diane); sisters Levia and Kay. Walter was born in Gronlid, SK on June 28, 1929. He was one of nine children raised by John and Anne Wachniak. Walter attended school in Winnipeg. As a young man Walter lived in Vancouver for several years. This is where he married Lovey Lapka. When their two children Terry and Vicky were still preschoolers the family moved back to Winnipeg. Walter worked alongside his father and several of his brothers at their family business, Wachniak Auctions. Even though he retired at 65 years he still stayed involved in the Auction until he was well into his 70s. Walter was always an honest, good natured, hard working man. He was very generous, and had a great sense of humour. Lovey and Wally lived in their same home since 1961. Their home always had an open door for family and friends. There was always good food and plenty of drink ready to go whenever the door bell rang, which was very often. He was wonderful man and will be missed more than words can say. The family would like to thank all his home care workers and nurses, Dr. Tsang, Seven Oaks Hospital and Health Sciences Centre staff. Prayers will be said on Thursday, December 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 28 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Chapel. Interment to follow in Poplarfield Community Cemetery, Poplarfield, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter's memory to the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Poplarfield, MB R0C 2N0. 204-586-8044
