Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY GREER MORTON (nee COMACK) December 17, 1922 - December 18, 2012 With sadness we announce the passing of Mary Greer Morton on December 18, 2012, at home with her beloved family, one day after her 90th birthday. Mom very much wanted to reach her 90th birthday and to stay in her home. We are grateful she was able to accomplish both and that she celebrated her birthday earlier with her extended family present. Mom was deeply committed to her family. She hosted many events including weekly family dinners, bridal showers, coffee times, and happy hours. In her earlier years Mom cared for many nieces and nephews; her home was the informal family day care and this time resulted in many life-long special bonds being developed, complete with anecdotal stories passed on at family gatherings with much joy and love. She and Dad provided a home for Grandma Comack for over 25 years, grandson Scott during his university years, and Uncle Terry when he emigrated from England. Mom was also a devoted homemaker. She was well-known for her baking and she ensured that family members received their favorites. She spent hours in her garden and loved to tell stories about the birds, squirrels and rabbits in the back yard. Mom also liked to spend time alone and independently; she was an avid reader and enjoyed countless hours of cross-stitching, knitting, and crocheting. Mom immigrated to Canada from Glasgow Scotland as a child with her older brother Hugh, and together they lived with their grandparents until their parents and siblings came a few years later. This too resulted in the creation of a life-long special bond with her brother. Later Mom met a young RAF airman, Jack Morton, from Leeds England while he was stationed in Canada during the war. They were married in August 1942, in Winnipeg and their family grew with the arrival of son Terry and daughter Maureen. Over the following years, family was their complete focus while living in Winnipeg and Stony Mountain. Mom and Dad celebrated 50 years of marriage together until Dad's death later in 1992. Mom is survived by son Terry Morton, daughter Maureen (John) Coe, grandson Scott (Kat) Morton and special great-granddaughter Jean and great-grandson Kameron, grandson Sean, granddaughter Stacey (Nicholas, Michael, Garrett, Hailey), brother Hugh (Agnes) Comack, sister Margaret Stephen, sister-in-laws Vi Comack, Cathy Morton (Leeds England), brother-in-law Terry (Alma) Morton, step-grandchildren Jackie (Jeff) McKay and children and David (Sara) Coe and many very special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Jack Morton, parents Hugh and Mary Comack, brothers John and Jimmy Comack and in-laws Lorraine Comack, Jack Stephen, Harry Morton, Les and Mary Morton and cousin Bill (May) Hynds. She also leaves life-long friend Grace Ritchie and supportive neighbors John and Al Delang, Agnes, Nick and Bob Barnaniuk. Mom belonged to the St. James Assiniboia 55+ Centre; special thanks to Adele Spence and drivers with the transportation program. A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 0S6. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca
