THOMAS BROWN MILNE It's time to say good-bye but a time to rejoice and celebrate the life of Thomas B. Milne. With family present Dad passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 15, 2012. Dad/Grampo is lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Olive; son Joshua and wife Donna; grandsons Mark and wife Sharon, Matthew and Tifanny; and great-granddaughter Anna. He was predeceased by his brothers William and James; and sisters Dorothy Card and Joan Wright. Tom was born January 26, 1924 in Los Angeles, the only American in his family and proud of it. Growing up in Winnipeg, he started his first job at the age of ten helping his uncle with concrete foundations. Graduating from Gordon Bell, he articled with Miller McDonald (Winnipeg) and Arthur Anderson (Chicago). Returning home he joined Great West Life Co. and obtained his CA designation. In November 1947 Tom married Olive Nolman and in 1951 they were blessed with the birth of their son Joshua. In 1960 the family moved to Edmonton where he worked with Prairie Pacific Distributors. In 1965 after a brief stint in Toronto they moved to Minneapolis where he learned the roofing business as VP of B. F. Nelson Mfg. Moving back to Winnipeg in 1975 Tom had the privilege of working with his brother at Manitoba Development Corp. then finishing his career at Assiniboine Credit Union as Manager of Finance. In his spare time Tom enjoyed working with wood. Using a hammer, handsaw or paint brush was his form of relaxation therapy. Building the family cottage in Minaki involved eventful trips from Minneapolis and many happy memories. With the cottage complete he took on the restoration of a 100 year old house in Walhalla, ND. Travels took Dad and Mom to various parts of Canada, the USA and overseas. One of his greatest joys was taking his young grandsons on summer road trips like to the Calgary Stampede, Black Hills and fishing in Northern Saskatchewan. In his spare time he worked on family genealogy, tracing the Scottish family roots back to 1492. We will miss all his sage words and stories. At Dad's request a private family service has taken place and interment will take place at a later date. In memory of Dad, donations to CancerCare Manitoba or the charity of your choice are greatly appreciated. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
