Born: May 13, 1930
Date of Passing: Dec 22, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySIMON BERNARD JOSEPH DUGUAY Simon Bernard Joseph Duguay passed away peacefully at Actionmarguerite (Taché Nursing Centre) in St. Boniface on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at the age of 82. Simon (Sam) leaves to mourn, his wife of 56 years, Inez Duguay (née Allard), his children Marc, Louis, Lynne (Mike) Magnusson and grandchildren, Shaun (Melissa), James, Dustin, Aamon, Samantha and Connor and his many nieces and nephews and many friends he considered as family. He also leaves behind his sister Huguette (Henri) Gauthier, and three brothers, Raymond (Jeannine), Gérald (Diane) and Léo (Charlette). Sam was known as Dad, Pops, Pépère, Godfather, Sammy baby and to most Uncle Sam. Sam was born in Ste. Anne, MB, on May 13, 1930, the child of Aurèle and Mary-Anne Duguay (Laurin). La famille a déménagé à St. Boniface dans une maison sur la rue Deschambault. His start as a restaurateur began at Le Restaurant Duguay on Provencher Avenue. He continued honing his skills in food preparation working for CN rail in the dining cars, running various drugstore dinners, and operating the cafeteria at M.P.I.C. at Eaton Place. Sam's home was an open door to friends and family. There was always homemade soup or chili ready to be enjoyed and in summer he loved to be by his pool enjoying a cold one. Sam was active in St. Boniface with The Knights of Columbus. His many years with the Knights saw him rise to the rank of State Deputy where he was given the nickname "Godfather" by brother Knights. He was also involved with Le Club Richelieu, a club which took part in Le Festival du Voyageur specifically L'abbé des Moines where Sam played the role of a monk. Sam had many sayings in his life such as - "I'll see you in my office", "Le train du Nord part dans cinq minutes", "I'll dance at your wedding if you invite me" and "Love You Baby". Sam was known for his deep infectious laugh, the love of conversation and a weakness for sweets and Italian cuisine. Maintemant un énorme rire vient de nous quitter. Special thanks to the staff at Actionmarguerite for the care they provided. A funeral service complete with a Knights of Columbus honour guard will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Eglise Précieux-Sang, 200 Kenny Street, at 10:30 a.m. with father Raymond Sorin presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sam's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220.

We were all so excited when Sam took over the MPI cafeteria and so sad when he left. We will always remember the great Christmas dinners he and Inez put on for us. And the days that he had the fresh cinammon buns and cheese buns, my arms were about 3 inches longer by the time I carried them home. Sam, you and your enorme rire will be missed. - Posted by: Bill Coe (Friend from MPI Eaton Place) on: Dec 27, 2012

We missed Sam, his wonderful food and his humor when the cafeteria closed at MPI in the 90's...He made the greatest soups -with the pea soup being the best ....I remember the wonderful turkey lunches he made when the Premised Dept staff invited their business partners in for Christmas lunch, the breakfast meetings we had with staff and business associates and of course his great Shepherd’s Pie ....I remember always taking several orders home …the kids were always excited when this tasty treat arrived for supper …..God comfort you all with His peace and the love of families and friends… Ron - Posted by: Ron Moscinski (Friend and Retired Manager of Premises MPI) on: Dec 27, 2012
