MARIA STREUBER It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother and Oma, Maria Streuber, on December 23, 2012 at the age of 87. Left to cherish her memory are her children daughter Barbara Hopman, son Alfred Streuber (Nancy), grandchildren Bryan Hopman (Coralie), Deanna Popadynetz (Terrence), Ashley Streuber (Warren), Brittany Streuber, Gregg Streuber (Kim), great-grandchildren Seth, Marijka and Cayden Popadynetz. She was predeceased by her husband Gerhard, and son-in-law Donald Hopman. Born November 6, 1925 to David and Elizabeth Paetkau in Osterwick South Russia, Maria was the older sister to David and Elizabeth, who predeceased her. In 1943, she fled Osterwick with her mother and brother and made her way to Goslar Germany where she met and married her husband Gerhard and had her first child Barbara. In 1950, the family immigrated to Canada where son Alfred was born. Maria loved her independence and took great pride in remaining in her home until shortly before her passing. To Maria family was everything. She loved to organize family get togethers and leaves a lasting legacy of the importance of family, laughter, great food and incredible baking. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at E.J. Coutu Chapel, 680 Archibald Street, Winnipeg.
